Last night Mom and I went to a Southern Living at Home party at a friend's house. I really didn't want to go, but Mom did and I wanted to support my friend. I'm not really much on any type of decorating (as my house will attest). They do have some nice stuff. I ended up buying a subscription to Southern Living Magazine at a very nicely discounted price. And a crockpot cookbook with all "southern style" recipes in it. Mom bought a cute deviled egg plate with a rooster on it. Cassie bought that too. I really need a deviled egg plate, but with 2 going to people I knew, I decided to pass.
Today is a bit dreary. And foggy. That's a big difference between here and Minnesota. Fog. I've probably mentioned this before, but I still can't quite get over it. You can get up at 5:30 and everything looks pretty clear. At 6:00 everything is still clear. But around 6:30 or so you start noticing this fog. And it gets thicker as time goes by. Pretty soon it's 7:30 or 8:00 and you are nearly socked in. It seemed more like in Minnesota you woke up to the fog and as the sun came up it "burned off". And we didn't have as many foggy days there, either.
Dad took his computer in to Best Buy to find out why it was slowing down (makes you think of a worm virus) and why he was getting the "Blue Screen of Death (makes you think of a RAM chip going bad). They told him his operating system is shot. I can't say as I've heard that one before. But he does have Win ME, which I've despised since the day they started putting it out on the market. It was sort of a stop-gap measure between 98SE and XP. It was always a slow-moving vehicle in my book. But he was stuck with it because he happened to need a new computer right when that was the only thing out there. So now he's scrambling to upgrade his favorite programs to XP versions. Spendy proposition. But he'll be so much happier with XP, I'm sure he'll think it's worth it. I'm an ardent fan of it myself. I, on the other hand, seem to be needing a new cooling fan. I heard the telltale squeal this morning when I turned the computer on. So I imagine Mensa Boy will have to get that changed out this next weekend (I do not DO hardware).
