35,000 pounds of meat? How would someone store that in a private home? And why? How did the heist happen?

The story is in today's Charlotte Observer. You'll have to register to read it, but it's free and this story makes it worth it, I think.

So this 73 year old woman, who has served on the school board for Lincoln County for 26 years, was arrested with her husband and charged with having a stolen couch.  Yes, a couch. Valued at $1,500. It's leather.  Authorities found the couch when they went to search the home of their son, who lives next door.  They found the son had about $500k of stolen goods, including bedroom furniture, a truck cab, a hot tub and 35,000 pounds of meat. They must have had warrants for both houses because at the parents home they found $620k of stolen property, the couch being the only item they were charged with.

Kind of makes you think maybe this woman and her husband were a bit under the thumb of their felonious son.  Maybe they were victims. But then, this lady was a powerful force on the school board, helping it through many crises over the years.

But maybe she's whacked because of the school board job.  The article mentions that one of the crises was when the board ousted a sitting chairperson because he missed 7 board meetings. Police found him in his closet with a 12-gauge shotgun.

And now a bit about Amazing Race:  I hope, wherever Colin is, that he's getting a pink slip from his employer.  Of course, if he and Christie won the million, he may not even have a job. But if he does, it's time for him to lose it. He is not a team player. He thinks only of himself and he's a bully.  I feel pretty badly for his family right now, as they must be pretty embarrassed after seeing him on TV last night.  And Christie...she needs some serious help.

I'm glad Kami and Karli are still in, but with no money. I think that definitely is a twist to this series that is enjoyable.  The Bowling Moms did well with that, but they have winning personalities and people really want to wish them well.  I'm just not sure about the twins, though.
