Email to the Log Cabin Republicans

After reviewing the comments of the Log Cabin Republicans at their site concerning the statements of Rick Santorum and the support President Bush gave Santorum by calling him an inclusive man, I wrote this email to them.

The problem is that you guys believe that 'compassionate conservative' claim made by Bush.  I have pondered this concept a lot.  The problem is that the type of conservatism that Bush practices is not the Barry Goldwater variety, the go slow and look to the wisdom of the past variety.

Bush is full of it.

  • He is full of his desire to impose our economic practices on the rest of the world.  And our economic practices have gone beyond the theories of democratic capitalism.  His version is autocratic capitalism.
  • He is full of his feelings of entitlement to maintain the status quo of who has wealth in this country and who does not.
  • He is full of the desire to impose a radical right wing version of Christianity as the defacto religion of the United States.
  • He is full of the desire to privatize everything that is part of our common heritage from our public lands to our national parks to our social security programs to our libraries.
  • He is full of the need to control your actions and limit your individual freedoms.

The Republican Party has gotten away from the ideals that caused you to become Republicans in the first place.  The right has been yanked all the way off the scale.

Look at the growth of the deficit.  How many conservative economists are opposing his ‘mist down’ tax cut proposal?  Look at the growth of the federal bureaucracy under Bush (and look at all the rules he has written that require new bureaucrats to administer).  Look at the continuing spread of income from the wealthy to the poor.  Look at the hysteria he encouraged after 9/11 (it was Bush who made 9/11 an attack on the American people and not an attack on the American symbols of our desire for global domination).  Look at the loss of good jobs for the unskilled in our society.  We can never get away with having no people born who lack the skills to become highly competent in our technologically advanced workplace.  What are we to do with them then?

I am not gay.  But I continue to wonder how anyone who is can support this version of conservatism.  Can you reclaim your party to match the ideals that led you to it?  If not, then you need to decide where you will take your membership because no matter how much Bush says he loves homosexuals, you have got to know that this above everything is a bald faced lie.
