Why is the 9/11 testimony being held hostage by Bush Co.?
Cal Pundit has a blog about classification today. The question of how classification of information that could be deemed political rather than national interest is interesting but it begs the facts of what has been done with the information that was put in the public interest about what happened on or prior to 9/11.
If you do a Google search on Mindy Kleinberg for example you get several links. The one to the official web site takes you to a ‘not found’ page. Google still has it cached and it still exists on the official site. But it was moved at least once since I first read it. You can now find it here. I won’t guarantee that it will be at that address tomorrow.
If you go to the main page for the commission you no longer find any direct links to individual testimony. That was not the case when I first went to the site. As I went there today you no longer even get a list of the names of those who testified much less the links that were there in the past so you could actually read the testimony.
There is a lot of discussion about Mindy’s testimony on the web. Much of the best is documented at the Democratic Underground site.
There was plenty of criticism to go around concerning the approach of Bush Co. concerning terrorism. Abraham D. Sofaer elaborated on how the Bush Administration has gone away from the Schultz Doctrine in how to deal with terrorism and how that might have contributed to 9/11. You can still find his testimony here. Note that his testimony was also largely critical of the Clinton approach to dealing with terrorism as well. But the fact that this is a conservative’s criticism of Bush Co. may be why you can not find an open link to his testimony on the official site any more.
This article in the New York Times explains how tepid Bush Co. has been to an open investigation of what and when the government knew about 9/11. Here is another editorial that discusses the same issues. Given the fact that the GOP felt that Whitewater was significant enough to devote over 30 million to investigate it but is only willing to put up 11 million to investigate the events leading up to 9/11 seems like it might spark some reporter in the mainstream media to point that out. But who thinks that will happen?
I have ferreted out much of the actual testimony. Here are the names and the links that you won’t find on the official site without doing a search.

These are all that I could find. From my memory the original list that I consulted on the webpage was much longer than these. If anyone knows of other names I could search for directly, I would appreciate it.
