Strange Bedfellows
It is hard to know if GW is taking lessons from the Israelis or vice versa. I see that the N.Y. Times is finally reporting on the true effects of the proposed rule changes to the Fair Labor Standards Act. Of course, GW is touting how this will benefit workers when he must know in fact that it will actually help US productivity gains by allowing companies to reclassify more people into job classes that take away their right to overtime. Now, let me ask a question. If you were an employer and were able to increase the number of hours an employee works OVER hiring new ones which would you be more likely to do? It is not rocket science.
As for the Israeli portion of the discussion it appears that they are happily marking out new Palestinian land in the West Bank and passing out demolition orders quietly while they are shouting from the rooftops how they have returned Bethlehem to the Palestinians. The new land seized is under the aegis of their plan for “Greater Jerusalem”. Yet as the Guardian says this is a “flagrant breach of commitments under the US-led road map to peace.”
Who wants to bet that when there is no word of criticism from Washington D.C. and the Palestinians decide that they have been duped and take up arms again, our government will rush to defend Israel. You know, I have been very supportive of Israel for all my 58 years but it is getting increasingly harder for me to have sympathy for them.
A Google search predictably shows that this Israeli story is being given lots of coverage in the international press, but not one word from American Media.
