Keeping Baby Clean

I need to spend more time tidying up after the baby instead of trying to pour myself into her. Balance in all things is important.

There are some things about the radio metaphor that I am having problems with. Trying to manage my site is much more problematic to me than getting my ideas published.

There are two things that I wish worked differently.

When I am in desktop Radio I wish I could click on a category and get the edit box at the top like it is on my home page. It would be easier for me to further refine my organization of my ideas if I could view them that way. I like things consistant. Having the edit box at the top would be more intuitive.

The second thing is how the categories show up. First, I like having the radio buttons below the edit box. BUT, I would also like to be able to scan down the list of stories see which they are in. I do not know how many times I have booted a story into the editor just to check to see if the categories are correct.

Moving the stories to the categories so they do not show up on the home page would be best too. I am not sure but I think that this is something I can set, but I am not sure how to do that.

Something esthetic but helpful would be to slightly grey out the desktop browser version of Radio so that when you stupidly click on something that takes you to the public version you get a clue as to why things look the same but different.

Couple of things<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" />

The only way I think that I can get Baby to show up on the updates page is to be sure that I post both to my home page and to the category that my blog will permanently reside in until I either put it on my desktop junk folder, or delete it completely. The other thing that bugs me is that my categories show up on the list instead of my blog name. I think I saw something on the news list about this. I need to go see if I can figure it out. What I would like to see ideally is that each blog show up as a “Blog Baby” but if clicked on it will send the person to the category instead of the home page unless it is only on the home page.

The worst part is that the categories show up as the original names I gave them rather than the new topic names that they have evolved to. As I see it the only way to really change them is to create a totally new category, copy them back to the editor, and then boost them up to the new category and finally delete the category.

I don’t know. Maybe I am missing something. I sure would like to see the categories listed by the actual blog on the edit page. If I am not sure where I assigned them I have to boot them into the editor to get the check marks to show up. Maybe I need to present a few things I would like to see and send it to the list.

The other thing has to do with my desktop junk folder. It is <?xml:namespace prefix = st1 ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags" />working as I planned. I can take a piece of writing that I am not happy with and send it to the junk yard. I know that it is there as I can see it in my computer and when I pull up my categories list on radio it shows the number of files in there. From the cloud when I force it to show me junk, it is replicated there but empty.

I would like to be able to get there from the radio app. I think I can do that on the right side menu where the Cloud Links are. But I am not sure how to edit this side.

What is bar none the best about radio to me is the ability to track back to the post or link that brings people to this little site.

I learn much by studying that.

I know that the current problem that I am having is my incipient desire to wrestle the Baby into submission. Problem is that she is stronger than I am even now. Nursery, Me, Irony Religion: I document them here because I do not like them at all and expect that they will change a bit in upcoming days.

Of course, I am not entirely sure that this idea, that of an organic growing ever evolving Blog will <?xml:namespace prefix = st1 ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags" />work. Perhaps I should rename it Amoeba Blog. Then I could give the categories the names of individual bacteria.... That is a thought.

I have 18 days left on my trial version. This means that Blog Baby is nearly two weeks old. She is still mostly sleeping, eating, and eliminating at the moment. As her Mother I am feeling more used to her foibles. I am also getting more fond of her all the time.

She needs some more clothing. She still lacks a personality that goes beyond looks too. I hope that she starts showing off her individuality soon. I have some ideas about helping that process along but am still mulling some of my options based on my own ability to parent her in these areas.

Until I sort it out, I will continue to feed her and tend to her basic needs. I am also doing some research on developmental stages in the life of my baby blog.

BLOG BABY BREAKDOWN!

In looking at my baby blog I can see right away that it has the capability to be all consuming. I look at my categories for example and find that I don't really like them. I can think of a million or so I would like to have but that would lead to baby blog breakdown I think.

I added my radio url to my email signature file today. I guess that means that I am staying with radio for at least a year. I expect that I will wait for the last day of my trial period to buy it though. My Dad’s encounter with The Depression left me with an appreciation of frugality.

Maybe that is why I love binary.

I was not very good at foreign languages either. Looking back at my high school transcript I can see that I would have been a straight A student if it were not for math and Spanish. Thank goodness for the college boards. I scored in the top 2% in language skills. 98+68/2=83 is somewhat better than 98+68+25/3=64 thank goodness. (I was also later surprised to find that I sort of enjoyed statistics.)

I appreciate all the help I have been getting from the radio community. And I promise that will try to not resort to being snotty again when my natural impatience with myself kicks in.

Here I will go on stumbling around terms that I do not have a clue as to what they mean, not being afraid to expose my foibles as well as my strengths, and generally blogin along with the rest of you.

I got my questions answered in the mailing list. In fact I got them answered twice. That was a good thing. It appears that if you want your theme to be consistant between categories, you choose -none- on the navlinks edit page.

I hope that in some future update the actual page will tell you that.

My frustration level is decreased.

Hmmm... may have gotten insight. Maybe the reason why my links are double spaced as I wanted them to be on my home page but are not double spaced on my categories page... is that the Transmitter theme is at fault.

New experiment coming up.

OK... having some kind of alerter that some of our stories have gotten new comments would be nice. I would suggest that there be an option under the category setup that lets you check if you want the comment Posted or Mailed or Posted and Mailed but this would mean that I would get my stream of consciousness posts sent back to me as some kind of Calvinist punishment. Which in a strange way might be very appropriate.

So it would be best if it was an option you check off whenever you make a comment to a blog. AND maybe it is already there!

Experiment coming up.

PLEASE!

Will the programmer of Radio Land put the delete button right under the WYSIWYG - Source radio choice?

Annoying annoying annoying....

The only way it appears to determine which categories I have assigned a story to is to actually, go to it on my main editing page, then load it into the editor.

It would be so much more helpful if the column with the edit button included the name of the category(s) .

GAH... enough of politics. I have been searching and searching for how to make my categories, stories, and links to other web sites actually show up in my menu frame.

MUST

BE

WAY

to use the Radio tool to do this.... While I have a smattering of experience in raw HTML, and I know that XML is more powerful, and more current, that is the extent of my understanding of it.

The worst thing is not having a clue as to where to find out the answer to such a simple question.

To be honest, the help files are hardly helpful as they seem to assume that you already know how it works.

And, this has always been my criticism of computer documentation.

Rant over.
