Political Debates
CALIFORNIA
The first debate last week was most interesting in that
Davis spent the first half hour professing his intention to
" connect " with more voters ~ and when offered the
opportunity to do just that with an unemployed tech
engineer who was worried about the shortage of jobs ~
Davis launched into his usual victim diatribe about
punishing corporations , etc, etc . As such , He blew a
wonderful opportunity to unveil the new ' caring and
empathetic ' Davis ~ which was not a surprise to anyone.
Arianna's clear progressive voice was refreshing but she
will not carry the day.
Ueberroth was boring and Camejo was just a little short
of boring.
McClintock stood his ground as a true conservative and
Bustamante did nothing to hurt himself.
What this debate needed was comic relief which was
provided by Schwarzenegger in L.A. who got hit by an
egg during a parking lot rally .
Prediction: Recall will win , Davis will be hung out to dry
and Bustamante will become our first latino governor by
a substantial margin.
FIRST DEMOCRATIC DEBATE
The first nationally televised Democratic debate of presidential hopefuls was held in Albuquerque , New Mexico this week and it was a well organized and a most interesting format.
The panel was given one minute each to respond to questions
regarding Iraq, the policies of Bush and the economy.
I had some distinct impressions of the candidates starting
with the ones who impressed me the most.
Sen John Kerry
He appeared the most presidential , his answers were
concise and well thought out and he was passionate about
his beliefs.
Rep Richard Gephardt
His heartfelt rage at the Bush agenda was very
believable and he appeared to deeply believe in himself
and what he could bring to the presidency.
Howard Dean
He seemed uptight and alittle self righteous or self
important ( a common Dean criticism ) but he was articulate
and well rehearsed.
Dennis Kucinich
Dennis's simplistic comments of " Bringing the troops
home and shelving various organizations " played well to
his fans but it also reinforced the impression of him being
a loose cannon ~ without a clearly thought out and realistic
agenda. I have a hard time seeing him in the oval office.
Carol Mosely Braun
Carol brought a refreshing woman's perspective to
this debate which makes me wonder if we may well be ready
for a woman presidential or Vice Presidential candidate ~
although I'm fairly certain it won't be Carol.
Sen John Edwards
Somewhat sophomoric and a JFK look alike ~
I question his ability to be a standard bearer for the party
and light a significant electorate fire.
Sen Bob Graham
Intelligent answers but lacks the passion and
conviction needed in this next election.
Sen Joe Lieberman
Last but not least Sleepy Joe who still appears to be
a Bush apologist for the war in Iraq and whose time has
obviously come and gone.
Prediction :
I think a Kerry/ Gephardt ticket could sink the Bush/Cheney
neo conservative ship ~ which is rapidly taking water.
