ALLEN'S CONVENTION REPORT ( Day Three )
HOPE VERSUS FEAR / EDWARDS SETS THE STAGE BUT KERRY MUST DELIVER IN THE CLUTCH
Day three featured an unscripted , electrifying and galvanizing anti Bush rant by Al Sharpton which brought the crowd to its feet but the night really belonged to John Edwards who more than set the stage for Kerry tonight.
Edwards set the themes of Hope versus Fear and The Two Americas brilliantly.
He was eloquent , impassioned, authentic and moving .
I was touched by his heart felt populist convictions of the need for a fairer and more inclusive America.
He will more than hold his own with the paragon of fear and deceit Dick Cheney.
It will be the ultimate confrontation between Hope and Fear, Openness and Deception, Optimism and apprehension , humbleness and arrogance and, of course, the Smile versus the Sneer.
I can't wait !
But now the stage is set for kerry and he must deliver the goods in perhaps the most important speech of his life.
Dante Chinni , Christian Science monitor, equates its importance with Kennedy's 1960's acceptance speech with its theme that the world is waiting our decision ;
" His New Frontier acceptance speech at the 1960 convention is considered an all-time great, framing the election as critical to the future of the nation and the world: "All mankind waits upon our decision. A whole world looks to see what we will do. We cannot fail their trust, we cannot fail to try."
Once again , Kerry must make the case that this election is critical to the nation and the world and he must do it with genuine fire in his belly and heartfelt conviction .
The World, The Nation and I wait with bated breath.
