BARNEY EXPOSED
This convention exudes heaviness which goes hand in hand with war, terrorism, fear mongering and Dick Cheney.
But before I get to Cheney let's talk about Zell Miller ~ the
perfect opening act for Cheney. As a tribute to the dumbing down of America the Republicans trot out a relic from another age as their keynoter ~ who openly lied with abandon. Like Alan Keyes the Republicans are pinning their hopes on a political nobody .
Katrina Vanden Heuvel writes; " Like theDemocrats for Bush organization he leads, Miller is more a sideshow than a force to be reckoned with. (Or as Ben Jones, a former Georgia congressman, challenging Miller to a debate, summed it up:
" I think that the devil has got into Zell Miller, and he needs a exorcist." He has convinced few important Democrats, if any, to join his quixotic crusade. Miller was feted at this week's convention, but the GOP are pinning their hopes on an empty vessel. "
As for Cheney ~ the effort to turn him into Barney was a miserable failure .
Not only did the costume obviously itch but Cheney feigning compassion was always mission impossible ~ note his lesbian daughter did not join him on stage after his talk .
This man is genuinely uncomfortable out of his bunker or the oval office ~ directing his Orwellian plots .
Cheneys moment of truth regarding Halliburton is also fast approaching for no firm has benefited more from Iraq than Texas-based Halliburton, Dick Cheney's former company.
Let's look at the facts:
- Halliburton was awarded a no-bid contract worth more than $7 billion for the rebuilding of Iraq. This contract was "coordinated" by the vice president's own office. That same year, 2003, Dick Cheney received $178,437 in "deferred compensation" from Halliburton.
- Reports show that Halliburton drastically overcharged America for gas being imported into Iraq, and skimped on basic services to troops like providing clean working conditions and safe food.
- In all, Halliburton has overcharged the U.S. government $186 million. They even used tax dollars to pay an employee in Iraq $82,000 a year to "walk around and look busy."
- Dick Cheney is watching out for Halliburton, and Halliburton is watching out for Dick Cheney. A recently filed 2003 financial disclosure form reveals that Halliburton invoked an insurance policy last year to indemnify Cheney for what could be steep legal bills "arising from his service" at the company.
This is a tired act which is dwelling on old material and becoming increasingly irrelevant .
It's becoming more apparent each day that the party represents the thinking of a small group of neo conservative cold war warriors ~ whose thinking is completely out of sync with a growing dramatic world wide shift in consciousness which demands cooperation and altruism versus separateness and violence.
Bush, as head cheerleader for this failed vision, will do his best to present a brave and hopeful face tonight but the die has been cast ~ this is Cheneys ship and its rapidly taking water.
Barney has been exposed .
