Allen L Roland's Radio Weblog
My ongoing theme is always the truth , as I see it , and the exposure of lies, deception and manipulation wherever they exist. I remain firmly convinced that the world can no longer resist its innate urge to unite and co-operate with one another and we are very close to the point where war can no longer be an option if this transformation is to occur. Treatment of prisoners
THE FINAL OUTRAGE

The democrats have become the 98-pound weaklings of the 21st century : Bob Herbert , N.Y.Times

Barbara Boxer got hung out to dry by her fellow Democrats
in supporting Conyers justified request for a much needed
investigation of 2004 election irregularities.

The Senate judiciary committee went through the motions
in questioning Albert Gonzales ~ who literally has condoned
torture in the War against Terror.

We've been had ~ the four horseman of Hubris ( Cheney, Bush,
Rumsfeld and Wolfowitz ) have barely slowed down and will
be back in full gallop after Bush's coronation .

The strategy is clear ~ starve the entitlement beast starting with
social security and then move on to more tax relief for Bush's
corporate buddies .

Paul Krugman calls it worst than fiction in his January 7th New
York Times piece;

" I've been thinking of writing a political novel. It will be a bad
novel because there won't be any nuance: the villains won't just espouse an ideology I disagree with - they'll be hypocrites, cranks
and scoundrels.

In my bad novel the administration will use the slogan"support the troops" to suppress criticism of its war policy. But it will ignore    repeated complaints that the troops lack armor.

The secretary of defense - another "good man," according to the president - won't even bother signing letters to the families of  soldiers killed in action.

Last but not least, in my bad novel the president, who portrays himself as the defender of good against evil, will preside over  the widespread use of torture.

Krugman goes on and asks an important  question:

How did we find ourselves living in a bad novel? It was not ever thus. Hypocrites, cranks and scoundrels have always been with us, on both sides of the aisle. But 9/11 created an environment some liberals summarize with the acronym Iokiyar: it's O.K if you're a Republican.

The public became unwilling to believe bad things about those who claim to be defending the nation against terrorism. And the hypocrites, cranks and scoundrels of the right, empowered by the public's credulity, have come out in unprecedented force.

Either way, when the Senate confirms Mr. Gonzales, it will mean that Iokiyar remains in effect, that the basic rules of ethics don't apply to people aligned with the ruling party. And reality will continue to be worse than any fiction I could write."

And there you have it ~ The final outrage is the fact that there is no party of opposition ~ the impotent democrats have thrown  in the towel leaving 49% of the American public, who do not approve of Bush's policies, without a leader and a voice in Congress.

Kerry waffled one time to many when he declared he would have attacked Iraq ~ knowing what he knows now ~ and the voices for peace, cooperation and ethical behavior have no leader.

The reality we face in the coming months will, indeed, be worst than any fiction Krugman could write and it's a story that will end in tragedy ~ on an individual  and national scale.

My personal feeling is that it will begin with the immense failure of our illegal and unethical occupation of Iraq and will snowball from there.

The Bush administration believes it now has a mandate and will continue to employ any means to its neoconservative ends with its lethal mixture of arrogance, power and incompetence.

Porter Goss is now actively weeding out the non believers in the Intelligence department and count on Gonzales to do the same in the Justice Department.

Cheney and Bush are surrounding themselves with yes men and true neocon believers ~ Rice is irrelevant ~ the wagons have been circled and now its time for a full scale attack on the checks and balances that are so crucial to our democracy.

Sometimes you must go through the tragedy of losing something precious before you realize what you lost ~ and we are in the process of experiencing it now.

And, hopefully, out of  this impending tragedy will emerge a chastened, humbled and more ethical America.
