"Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world. Indeed, it's the only thing that ever has." -- Margaret Mead
When we look back on the fall of the corrupt and deceptive Cheny/Bush administration ~ we will realize that this administration was done in by many deep throats who used the power of the internet to communicate their truths, who used the power of the internet to communicate what Europe already knew ~ that we are being deceived by a corrupt political establishment that is sliding towards fascism. Edward Zehr describes it perfectly;
" I wouldn't call it fascism exactly, but a political system nominally controlled by an irresponsible, dumbed down electorate who are manipulated by dishonest, cynical, controlled mass media that dispense the propaganda of a corrupt political establishment can hardly be described as democracy either. "
We have already lost in Iraq and the only reason we are still there is because there never was an intention to leave. This is Cheney's grand vision, conceived two years ago, of a permanent American foothold in Iraq with the purpose of controlling its oil and with it the Middle East.
The Iraqi's know this all too well ~ which is why their resistance is growing stronger every day ~ they are being permanently occupied and they are rightfully resisting.
Want more proof ?
How about this ~ Tom Burgis reports, www.thelondonlone.co.uk, that as the costs of the Iraq occupation spiral, British and American oil companies meet in secret next week to carve up the country's oil reserves for themselves.
http://www.thelondonline.co.uk/theline/article.php?articleID=437
" Executives from BP, Shell, Exxon Mobil and Halliburton, Dick Cheney's old firm, are expected to congregate at the Paddington Hilton for a two-day chinwag with top-level officials from Iraq's oil ministry. The gathering, sponsored by the British Government, is being described as the "premier event" for those with designs on Iraqi oil, and will go ahead despite opposition from Iraqi oil workers, who fear their livelihoods are being flogged to foreigners."
Do you really think that Cheney & Bush really care about those 1700 plus Dead American soldiers, do you think they really care about the over 12,000 seriously maimed and wounded American soldiers, do you think they really care about the 100,000 innocent Iraqi civilians who have been killed and wounded by our illegal power grab, do you think they really care about our shattered world image because of the illegal treatment of our prisoners, or do you really think, as I do, that they only care about the bottom line of oil and world power.
It's time for our leaders and politicians to start owning what we on the internet have been writing for years. People like Sidney Blumenthal ;
" Bush's light-at-the-end-of-the-tunnel vision can only accelerate the cycle of disillusionment. His instinctive triumphalism inevitably has a counter-productive effect. His refusal to insist on responsibility for blunders - indeed, rewarding and honouring their perpetrators - enshrines impunity and hubris....His doctrine of presidential infallibility, the election being his only "moment of accountability", can no longer be sustained by reference to September 11. His defence of the abuse and torture of detainees at Guantánamo and other prisons in violation of laws formerly upheld by the US blots out his attempts to explain the purity of his motives."

And lately a few political leaders are beginning to listen to the truthtellers ( the Deep Throats ) and the millions of Americans who are fed up with our leadership and are flooding the capitol with emails.
Chuck Hagel, a Republican senator from Nebraska: "The White House is completely disconnected from reality. It's like they're just making it up as they go along. The reality is that we're losing in Iraq."
And web commentators like Pepe Escobar, Asia Times, keep reporting on this reality that our own media purposely ignores;
" It's virtually impossible for US President George W Bush's Iraq to be "on its way to democracy" when real unemployment reaches a staggering 50% (a scarier prospect for most people than car bombs or snipers), 25% of children under five years old are malnourished, 78% of the households in the country (and 92% in Baghdad) have electricity only a few hours a day, only 37% of urban households (and a mere 4% in the countryside) have sewage-disposal systems, only 61% have access to drinking water, 5% of households have been destroyed by bombing or search-and-destroy missions, only one in 10 households in rural areas can be reached by a paved road, and more youngsters than in any previous generation are illiterate. This is the appalling legacy of the occupation - and the US and UN-imposed regime of sanctions in the 1990s. "
The Iraqi's will fight to the death the remake of Iraq as a US-controlled neo-liberal paradise and we have no business imposing that on them.
A small group of thoughtful, committed citizens brought our Republic and constitution into existence and we can now demand that our leaders reflect our desires ~ and not their own selfish and greedy aspirations draped with the flag of a ' pseudo ' Democracy.
As mother Teresa once said ~ Don't wait for the leaders, be the leaders.
Get on line, sign petitions, demonstrate and let your feelings be known ~ your voice is needed.
The survival of the Republic is at stake.
