FIVE TESTS OF SUCCESS FOR BAKER COMMISSION PLAN
The Baker/Hamilton Commission Plan will mark the beginning of our eventual withdrawal from Iraq. For that withdrawal to be successful, I believe the United States, not the Iraqis, must agree to five short term benchmarks;
- Reject all plans for permanent American military bases in Iraq.
- Give up any unique claim on Iraqi oil.
- Agree to substantially fund the re-building of Iraq without any special relationship to the contracts to do the job.
- Begin withdrawal of all occupation forces within six months
- Effectively deflate AIPAC ( The Jewish Lobby ) which wants to negate the Baker/Hamilton plan for its own self serving reasons ~
Olmert Counting on Jewish Lobby to foil Baker-Hamilton
w w w . h a a r e t z . c o m http://www.haaretz.com/hasen/spages/789919.html "On his way home from Los Angeles, the prime minister "calmed" the reporters - and perhaps even himself - by saying there is no danger of U.S. President George W. Bush accepting the expected recommendations of the Baker-Hamilton panel, and attempting to move Syria out of the axis of evil and into a coalition to extricate America from Iraq. The prime minister hopes the Jewish lobby can rally a Democratic majority in the new Congress to counter any diversion from the status quo on the Palestinians."
The first three points have never been discussed by the Congress and the media ~ but are essential before a credible withdrawal timetable can be implemented.
I'm not holding my breath ~
