LETTER REGARDING DU EXPOSURE / WHY DO SO FEW SEEM TO HEAR
This letter was in reply to my newsletter of March 6th entitled BUSH'S ONGOING WAR AGAINST VETERANS http://blogs.salon.com/0002255/2007/03/06.html
where I shared that British and American coalition forces are using depleted uranium (DU) shells in the ir occupation of Iraq and deliberately flouting a United Nations resolution which classifies the munitions as illegal weapons of mass destruction ~ and then ignoring the after effects by not acknowledging the victims as war casualties.

Our oldest son is sterile from DU from exposure in Desert Storm. The youngest doesn't know about DU exposure for himself, though, after 11 years in the Corps he has a 40% disability from a back injury in Iraq and no compensation for his effort. Reminiscent of our generation coping with Agent Orange.
The statistics on Desert Storm vets are appalling - greater than 50% with greater than 25% disabilities, mostly due from DU.
My father spoke of the Bonus March which he participated in as a young man, his father a WWI vet.
I truly hope that no other generation of our family will participate in a US military adventure. Our citizenry don't give a damn about their veterans. We're like Dixie Cups - use `em once and toss em to the side of the road.
I won't rest `till Cheney and then Bush and their minions are behind bars. These reprobates have brought our Republic to its knees on the backs of working people and those foolish enough to fight their wars.
Sadly, the DNC seems so infused with the fear of taking a moral stand that we may well be stuck with the likes of Hilary or Obama, masters of dissembling and non-positionality.
Would that Gore were a real candidate.
Thanks for putting the word out about all of the issues you treat, especially this one. So many of us who are parents of Iraq 1 & 2 vets seem to be screaming in the wind. No one seems to want to know.
How is it that so few seem to hear?
