PRESIDENT BARACK OBAMA / CHANGE HAS COME TO AMERICA
It was an electrifying moment when CNN projected that Barack Obama had won the election ~ the room I was in exploded in joy and I pounded on a saucepan with a wooden spoon as scores of people around me screamed and cried in joy ~ for finally, yes, finally change has come to America: Allen L Roland
There are so many people, including myself, who are deeply effected by Barack Obama's victory on November 4th but more importantly by Barack Obama himself.
This man of intelligence, grace and eloquence has seized his moment on the world stage and he has, as Colin Powell predicted, electrified not only this country but also the world with his astounding victory and repudiation of the Bush/Cheney Doctrine.
He is truly a transformational figure for a world that is being driven by its innate urge to unite and cooperate with one another.
"If there is anyone out there who still doubts that America is a place where all things are possible, who still wonders if the dream of our founders is alive in our time, who still questions the power of our democracy, tonight is your answer," Obama said. "It's been a long time coming, but tonight, because of what we did on this day, in this election, at this defining moment, change has come to America ... Government of the people, by the people, for the people did not perish from the face of the earth "
Let me summarize some comments from others who have been deeply effected by this historic moment ~
I first saw and heard Barack Obama in 2000 at the Democratic convention and I was so moved by his spiritual presence and the clarity of his thinking that I wished that someday he would become President and a leader who could inspire the world as he inspired me. Tonight my wish came true and I cried tears of joy. Keiko Okubo / Sonoma, Ca
This has to be one of the most satisfying days of my long life. Over the past Eight years..and specifically the last Four years.. I am sure that I have made quite a number of my friends and acquaintances most unhappy with me for my determined and unrelenting support of a young black man for President of these USA. I may have even helped some of them to see the light..even if they are too proud to ever admit it. But this man, named Barack Obama, is now Our President. He will never know how hard I have worked for him in the quiet of the day and night, even when my back hurt and my eyes refused to stay open. It has been worth it for now I have a President that I can be proud of. I will not have to cringe every time he opens his mouth to speak in our name. We finally have a President that the whole world can have trust in his word. A President that we can all Respect. We now have a President that will not Threaten the world with the power of our Arms. We now have a man that respects the peoples of every nation : Anonymous / Truthout Forum / http://www.truthout.org/PresidentObama
My joy knows no bounds. To see that lovely family, victorious, on stage in Chicago brought me to tears. As an immigrant to this country 45 years ago, all I can say is THANK YOU to all the brave, loyal Americans who BELIEVED in President Obama and helped us to reclaim our country and our democracy! You are absolutely AMAZING! I have never been so proud. Thank you from the bottom of my heart. Anonymous / Truthout forum / http://www.truthout.org/PresidentObama
This wonderful victory has come about because we the people of this country have begun to wake up and realize the democracy is a participatory government and for what we have been dreaming about an Obama presidency will come about only with our continued diligence and pressure on all lawmakers to bring about a government of, for and by the people. No longer can we be fearful of our leaders but it's time that we put fear of the people in the hearts of our leaders: Jess Alford / Truthout forum / http://www.truthout.org/PresidentObama
Finally, for the first time in a very long time ~ I can sincerely say that I am proud to be an American.
