THE PLEA OF MOTHER EARTH / UNITE OR PERISH !
As our seas become laden with plastic trash and 75% of our fishing grounds are depleted ~ we must face the fact that we are rapidly depleting what Nature provides us and that our eco-system does not have borders. Our actions effect everything and we must unite and cooperate with each other and nature ~ or we will perish: Allen L Roland
I just finished watching HOME ~ Mother Earth in HD. An extraordinary 90 minute film shot by Yann Arthus-Bertrand and filled with images and music that will touch you deeply.
Compared to BBC's award winning PLANET EARTH ~ HOME, from the very first image, intimately connects to the viewer, as it did with myself, and demands action.
Here's what Yann said about his magnificent 90 minute documentary ~ " We live in an all-crucial time. Scientists tell us that we have only 10 years left for our way of life to change. We must stop depleting our natural resources and prevent a catastrophic development of the global climate behavior. Each individual has to take this common effort to participate, and to as many people as possible to point out this fact, which is why I shot the film HOME. This film was created for the widest possible dissemination.The PPR Group made this possible. Europe Corp., which ensures the distribution, has agreed not to generate profit from HOME, because the film has not been created for economic success... As such, I would like HOME, to be your movie. Distribute it. And act."

Sharing and cooperation is everything ~ our earth exists in a fragile subtle harmony that can easily be shattered. ( Cooperation and altruism are the driving forces of evolution ~ not survival of the fittest which is actually dependent on these virtues )
Every species has its place ~ none is harmful ~ they all have their part to play ( The miracle of life is that we are all inter-connected and have a part to play in this universal loving plan )
80% of the worlds mineral wealth is consumed by 20% of the worlds population .
One out of every 10 rivers no longer flows to the sea ( That includes our own Colorado River )
1/2 of the world's poor live in resource rich countries.
1/2 of the world's wealth is in the hands of 2% of the population. ( the rich get richer and the poor get poorer )
One human being in six lives in dire poverty. ( Hunger effects nearly one billion people on the planet )
One billion people have no access to safe drinking water ( That most certainly includes a majority of the population of occupied Iraq )
Average temperature in the last 15 years is the highest ever recorded ( Half the farm land in Australia is experiencing severe drought )
Artic Icecap has lost 40% of its thickness in the last 40 years and could be gone within 15 years ( If the permafrost melts and releases Methane into the atmosphere ~ our time on Earth as a species will be severely limited )
Because of global warming ~ we will have 200 million refugees by 2050 ( Global warming will force us to help and cooperate with one another ~ whether we like it or not )
The main point of this important must see film is that everything is linked and what's important is not what is gone but what remains. All teachers should show this film to their students for it is their future that is ultimately at risk.
I've always been innately aware of something very important ~ that the Native American also knew ~ a deep knowing connection and responsibility to mother Earth. Perhaps the only way to truly make this connection is to compare the earth to our own bodies. Songwriter and composer Scott Deturk wrote of this connection in his hauntingly beautiful song ~ You are My Mother, Earth ~ which was sung and recorded by myself in 2002. It's obviously up to each one of us to determine what happens next to our planet ~ the frantic plea of mother Earth is now ringing in our ears ~ we must soon obey its driving evolutionary urge to unite and cooperate with all living beings or we will indeed perish !
