SCENIC TULSA: SIGNS OF HOPE

White middle class citizens protesting the war at 41st and Yale (by a mall) last Saturday.

Suzette Haden Elgin has started her blog.  It's called ozarque's Journal. As I mentioned in an earlier post, Dr. Elgin is a science fiction writer, poet (quite good), artist (ditto, her collages inspired me to pick up my scissors and dance), linguist, and one of the best cranks and loveliest crones I know, who attended the blog panel at Conestoga 8 and quizzed us about blogging. She also publishes the Religious Language Newsletter. She's well worth the click.

ARIEL IN BOLLYWOOD

Ariel with the singing, dancing Gomang Monks in Tulsa earlier this summer.

A couple of weeks ago, my 17 year old stepdaughter Ariel took passage to India to take up residence in Dharamsala (the Dalai Lama's home-in-exile) as an exchange student, through a program run by the Rotary Club, of all things.  Rotarians in India? She lives with a Hindu family, but attends a Tibetan Buddhist school. Ariel has for some time been passionately interested in the Dalai Lama, Tibetan Buddhism, and all things Tibetan.  She has already been to one of the Dalai Lama's weekly audiences. Brother Spike, who is not impressed by much of anything or anyone, has met the D.L., and was impressed.  Frankly, I envy her the opportunity I did not have at the same age, to take such a pilgrimage. And, seekers and pilgrims, you can follow Ariel's adventures, because of course she has a blog, called ARIEL IN BOLLYWOOD, wherein she discusses squattie potties, beggars, the local transvestite, and watching cricket with her host-family.
