Spc. James D. Carroll of the 230th Engineer Battalion, Army National Guard, age 23, died when an improvised explosive device detonated near his HMMWV near Baghdad, Iraq, on July 31, 2005. (souce: CNN casualty list)

The number of American dead is now at least 1806.

I've been occupied with family and other matters. I haven't been out chalking since the number was 1785. Last Friday, that was. Plus the weather is so damned hot. I have everything I need ready to go for the next action (no spray paint this time), but have lacked time and opportunity; deviants and dissidents have to take care of business, too. The black ribbon leaflet template in Word is up to date and still available for the asking.

Someone slipped this through our mail slot a while back. No note. I like the shy ones the best.

A year or two ago, my wife Elspeth (who is the boss of me, you betcha) commissioned me as her Poet Lariat and as Pope of the Seventh Day Atheist Aztec Baptist Synod to write a three-in-one Pagan Atheist Feminist Liturgy. I've been working on it...I think of it as a one-size-fits all Book of Common Prayer for the Unchurched, with a tip of my miter to Thomas Cranmer the principle author oF the Church of England's 1662 edition of this psalter even though he was burned at the stake in 1556. By the way, One of Elspeth's Grandmothers was a bishop of the Episcopal Church here in Oklahoma. I consider my wife to be an Atheist Episcopal. Some of the poetry I've posted may become part of it, but here is the Litany (a work in progress):

Note: I have revised the version I first posted a bit. I said it was a work in progress. The original litany posted is below the revision.

Lady Litany

O Holy Mother, Lady Infinity,

without existence, beyond nonbeing,

shall we have mercy?

Let us have mercy upon one another.

O Lady, Little mother, whose names run through us

like a river of wolves, to strange ends.

Shall we be redeemed?

Let us redeem ourselves.

O Grandmother, to whose house we go,

whose hand holds the scissors,

Shall we be saved?

Let us save the world.

In the unspeakable blessing and glory

of this unfinished creation,

Mother of all,

let us save ourselves.

Do not remember, Lady, our arrogance,

nor the arrogance of our forefathers and longmothers.

Shall we be spared vengeance?

Let us not take vengeance.

Can we be forgiven?

Let us forgive the unforgiven.

Let us spare all we can for each other.

Let us not remember our anger,

nor cherish our rage as righteousness,

Lady, let us not be angry forever.

From all that is called evil,

let us not oppose it by becoming it.

Let us not commit soul arson in the name of god.

From all our crafts with which we assault each other and the Earth,

let us not use them to build angels of death

that hate our enemies and destroy them with their perfect hatred.

Let us not put weapons into the hands of men, women, and children.

Let us not make people less than human,

by calculated torture train torturers and killers.

Let us not reduce people into predators, that pray as they prey.

Let us not assemble armies out of anarchy,

that eat nations from the inside out like cannibal insects.

Let us not kill, destroy, and maim every living being in the biosphere

out of our ingrained greed.

Spare the blue sky, white clouds, and the all hues of Earth,

good Lady, from our blind wrath

and everlasting stupidity.

Spare us, Good Lady.

From blinded minds,

from pride, vainglory, and hypocrisy,

from envy, hatred and malice,

from false charity, wrong righteousness, and all unkindness of heart.

Good Lady, deliver us.

From deadly lust and unlucky love,

and all the deceits

of the world, the flesh,

and the devil in the details.

Good Lady, deliver us.

From all the consequences of our own actions in the days to come.

Good Lady, bear us.
