The Burden
It is so vast
it is too small to see.
It is too light to lift
and so heavy it lifts us up.
It is so dark
we cannot fail to see it.
It is so dazzling
we are struck blind.
It takes so long
blink and you'll miss it.
It moves so fast
it will never catch up with itself.
Eons shoot past it
like it was standing still.
It is so slow
we do have world enough and time.
Because it is eternal
it quickly comes to an end.
It cannot die.
It was never born.
No matter how high we lift it,
it never leaves the ground.
We cannot pick it up
without putting it down.
It's now
and never.
Without a blindfold
you'll never pin a tail on it.
