GOOGLE POEM COMPOSED FROM A SEARCH ON BUSH POLLS
NO HOODS AND COLLARS
What’s behind
Bush’s steep decline?
The law of gravity.
Terror lifts Bush lower than Nixon.
Depressed polls
richly deserve the sudden plunge.
Bush needs more than one dog to wag.
The conventional wisdom
is much worse the the media pretends.
Trailing his presumptive,
Bush polls better
on personal traits that may not in reality exist.
Bush polls better
with kids than adults:
First choice for an emergency baby sitter.
Bush doesn’t make decisions based on polls.
What do all these damn polls mean?
Whatever Karl wants.
Surveys can introduce error
but the generic test does reliably focus on war.
Terror propels Bush.
No longer a slam dunk, still
Bush knows war is the best way.
There’s no Hoods and Collars shop in Baghdad.
There was a massive shift.
Maybe even a thought process.
A dip over fears.
In a virtual dead heat with a given likelihood
that Florida will again
suffer a loss of moral clarity, polls erode Bush.
Polls find a point of trouble.
Ratings like Bush even less.
Numbers slip on a falter.
By some measures,
at the lowest point of his presidency,
will Bush’s flag decal still get him into heaven?
Dana Pattillo
Note: The last line refers to the John Prine song YOUR FLAG DECAL WON'T GET YOU INTO HEAVEN ANYMORE.
