ADDENDUM TO LAST SUNDAY'S PHOTO-ESSAY

I saw four eagles yesterday.  They roost along the Arkansas River in winter.  It’s not that unusual to see one out fishing.  I was messing around with my new camera, at the strip of park that runs alongside Riverside Drive on the opposite side of the river from Turkey Mountain.  I had just snapped the shutter on a view of the river, when I spotted a mature adult wheeling about a quarter mile upriver.  It was hopeless to try to get a shot with a little digital camera, though I did take another picture.  May be there’s a speck, a few pixels worth of eagle somewhere in the blue.  Then damn if I didn’t see an immature (none of that white plumage on the head) bird soaring right along until I lost him against the trees on Turkey Mountain.  Thinking I might have a better chance to see the eagles up close, I got back in my car and drove upriver to the next turnout.  No dice.  Nothing but gulls and a heron.  I did get some nice pictures along the sandbar.  It wasn’t until I was driving home, that I spotted two eagles floating high over Riverside Drive.  I nearly caused a wreck rubbernecking at them through the windshield.
