"It would be easier if I were dictator", George W. Bush |
George Bush Exposed It is becoming very clear that the reason Bush is not pursuing justice against Saudi Arabia for allowing and supporting its internal fanatic religious institutions attack on America with 9/11 is because of not only the multinational oil company interests but because of the interests of his family's personal investments. - Editor
Quotes of the Day
"This ain't the end of it. We're going to have some more," said Representative Tom DeLay of Texas, the House majority leader, shortly before the 1:45 a.m. vote in which the House approved the tax plan. "Our budget says we're going to have $1.3 trillion in tax cuts, and you bet we're coming back for more."
"This tax bill is one of the most dangerous & destructive and dishonorable acts of government that I've ever seen," said Senator Mark Dayton, Democrat of Minnesota. "It is a shameful looting of the federal treasury by the rich and powerful of America, compliments of their friends in Congress. It uses every trick in the budget book to line the pockets of the upper class."
"The greatest purveyor of violence on this Earth is the U.S. Government."
"The U.S. is not a democracy, it is a plutocracy"

“Given the scant findings in Iraq so far, it is disturbing to recall how gravely the administration portrayed the dangers of Iraq’s unconventional weapons. High officials said Iraq had reconstituted its program to develop nuclear weapons, was continuing to make biological weapons and possessed a large stockpile of chemical agents, some ready to be used against American troops or made available to terrorists.” Not “disturbing” enough, however, to revive those “dark hints” that the entire WMD campaign was a pack of lies aimed at justifying a military invasion of a sovereign nation.

NEWSWEEK has learned new details about the dispute.

Dean calls for repeal of President Bush's tax cut © HOLLY RAMER, Associated Press Writer MANCHESTER, N.H. (AP)
Democratic presidential hopeful Howard Dean called for a repeal of the $350 billion tax cut that President Bush signed into law Wednesday, describing it as "part of a radical agenda to dismantle Social Security, Medicare and our public schools through financial starvation."
Dean's rival, Rep. Dick Gephardt of Missouri, labeled the tax cuts -- the third largest in the nation's history -- "unfair, unaffordable and ineffective" as several of the Democratic candidates stepped up their criticism of the president's economic policies. |

© In The Kingdom Of Forgetting, by Mark Engler Memory can be an embarrassing thing. In politics, it's often more convenient to forget. The classic illustration of this idea was Orwell's dystopian Ministry of Truth, where functionaries fed any inconvenient bit of information down the memory hole "whereupon it would be whirled away on a current of warm air." |

From Undernews 12.5 MILLION ETHIOPIANS FACE STARVATION UN WIRE - The World Food Program today appealed for $90 million in aid for Ethiopia, warning that despite early warning of potential famine and what it called "a rapid response" from the international community, 12.5 million Ethiopians face starvation. . . A shortage of cereal has forced the WFP to reduce rations from 15 kilograms per person per month to 12.5 kilograms for all but the most vulnerable. WFP Executive Director James Morris told the organization's executive board today that the shortages have forced the WFP to "exercise in triage."
41% OF AMERICANS BELIEVE WMDs FOUND A PIPA-Knowledge Networks poll finds that 68% continue to approve of the decision to go to war with Iraq. However, only 50% said that they were somewhat (29%) or very (21%) certain that "when the US government presented the evidence to justify going to war with Iraq, it was. . . not being misleading." Another 5% said they were not very certain. . . Steven Kull, director of PIPA comments, "Enthusiasm about the success of the war may be offset by the failure to find evidence of Iraqi weapons of mass destruction or links to al' Qaeda."

Documents from the Phoenix Program © TheMemoryHole.org supplied and introduced by Douglas Valentine author of The Phoenix Program Created by the CIA in Saigon in 1967, Phoenix was a program aimed at "neutralizing"—through assassination, kidnapping, and systematic torture—the civilian infrastructure that supported the Viet Cong insurgency in South Vietnam. It was a terrifying "final solution" that violated the Geneva Conventions and traditional American ideas of human morality.
The CIA destroyed its copies of the documents related to this program, but the creator of Phoenix gave his personal copies to author Douglas Valentine. He, in turn, has given them to The Memory Hole. They have never previously been published, online or in print. |

Alternet.org CIA ignored warnings about policing Iraq The CIA convened panels of former ambassadors, soldiers and peacekeeping experts in the months prior to the war on Iraq. Their purpose was to advise the military the best ways to maintain order in postwar Iraq, but all their recommendations were ignored.
The panels predicted anarchy and looting in major cities, and warned as well against using troops whose training included only "shoot to kill and retreat." As Robert Perito, a former diplomat who designed a similar action in Haiti in 1992, said, "[The Pentagon] thought the Iraqis would just get over the trauma of the war and go back to work on the first day." |

Arkansas Times Punitive damage, By Doug Smith Trial lawyers - and their injured clients - were wounded by the new 'tort reform law.' Corporations, doctors and insurance companies won big. Hugh E. Crisp of Little Rock sues more doctors than anyone else in Arkansas. It is tough, contentious work. Accustomed to deference, doctors hate being sued even more than most people, and they despise the lawyers that do it. In an Arkansas Times survey earlier this year, doctors described trial lawyers as "rat bastards" and "subhuman species."
Buzzflash.com/Houston Chronicle/Associated Press Governor signs Defense of Marriage Act into law AUSTIN - Same-sex marriages cannot be recognized in Texas under legislation that Gov. Rick Perry signed today. With the new law, which is called the Defense of Marriage Act by its supporters and is opposed by homosexual rights advocates, Texas will be prevented from legally recognizing same-sex unions that are formed in other states. Already, Texas law does not recognize same-sex marriage.
By DINA CAPPIELLO Houston Chronicle Environment Writer DALLAS -- In her last scheduled visit to Texas, outgoing U.S. Environmental Protection Agency administrator Christie Whitman on Wednesday described her tenure under the Bush administration as a "roller coaster," that at times, "rocked people" with the way it made decisions. |

Buzzflash.com The Looting of America, by P.M. Carpenter
Any American who thinks only other nations -- especially those of Third World nether regions -- are susceptible to tawdry power grabs should think again, for it seems we're in the 3rd year of an ugly coup d'etat as real as any in history. Because ours is directed by invisible hands of stalking Karl Roves of the under-your-bed spook variety, it is infinitely slicker than palace-storming revolutions. You'll see no scraggly bearded general encircled by cutthroat gangs firing .45s from parliament's steps here. Our revolutionaries are refined paper pushers -- those oxymoronic Radical Republicans. |
