We are looking for an underwriter for this project as well. The software should be that which could be used to create "3D" connections between members of multiple boards of directors and their political, personal and investment and donation interests, as well as politicians investments in private industry. We also want to be able to image the connections between politicians who move between government work and private industry. Please help! |

News & Commentary
Things will come to a head in this country before the next election - all of the talk in the wind lately of what the administration will do to create a military government and scrap the constitution, if there's another terrorist attack. My strong belief is that this administration "let" the WTC attack happen to allow themselves the leeway to go forward with the grab for Afghan gas, poppies and Iraqi oil, let alone the "Patriot" Act. I watched the economy tank after Bush took office, I think because of people's fear. Then I've seen Bush dismantle programs and let his buddies pick up the pieces, just like the crumbling of the Soviet Union. Doesn't it seem strange that the head of the "free" world is the son of the CIA chief as is the president of Russia the ex-KGB chief and in the middle east Sharon is the ex-chief of Mossad? Each of these 3 bums are using the same tactics to consolidate power, in their respective fiefdoms: Chechnya, Palestine and GWB's Taliban, all bringing fear so the Great Leader can offer his protection racket. - Gary Cook, Editor, Progressive Daily News.

Watch American Dynasty: Aristocracy, Fortune, and the Politics of Deceit in the House of Bush Kevin Phillips
Description: From Borders Books & Music in Washington, DC, former Republican White House strategist Kevin Phillips discusses four generations of the Bush family from World War I through the current President George W. Bush. He writes that the family's expertise has been in intelligence, energy, and national security -- three of the major enterprises of the twentieth century. In addition, Phillips argues that the family systematically used its social and financial influence to gain the White House. |
Author Bio: Kevin Phillips has been a political and economic commentator for more than three decades. A former White House strategist, Mr. Phillips is a regular contributor to the Los Angeles Times and NPR and writes for Harper’s and Time. His books include “The Politics of Rich and Poor,” “Cousin’s Wars,” “Arrogant Capital,” “William McKinley” and “Wealth and Democracy.” |

Bush Appears to Back Down on Arms Claim Against Iraq WASHINGTON, Jan. 27 — President Bush declined Tuesday to repeat his claims that evidence that Saddam Hussein had illicit weapons would eventually be found in Iraq, but he insisted that the war was nonetheless justified because Mr. Hussein posed "a grave and gathering threat to America and the world."
’Child’s Pay’ ad hits the airwaves MoveOn.org, the politically left-leaning Internet-based advocacy group whose Super Bowl commercial criticizing the nation's deficit was rejected by CBS, is separately attacking President Bush in ads running in four states. The rejected ad had been selected the winner by a panel of judges in a competition staged by MoveOn.org. The ad, by Charlie Fisher of Denver, is called "Child's Pay,'' and shows children washing dishes in a restaurant, cleaning an office building, hauling trash and standing on an assembly line - with the tagline, "Guess who's going to pay off President Bush's $1 trillion deficit?'' CBS rejected it, as well as another ad proposed for the Super Bowl by People For the Ethical Treatment of Animals, because of its policy to not air issue-advocacy advertising.

CBS Censors Winning Ad During this year's Super Bowl, you'll see ads sponsored by beer companies, tobacco companies, and the Bush White House.1 But you won't see the winning ad in MoveOn.org Voter Fund's Bush in 30 Seconds ad contest. CBS refuses to air it.2
Meanwhile, the White House is on the verge of signing into law a deal which Senator John McCain (R-AZ) says is custom-tailored for CBS and Fox,3 allowing the two networks to grow much bigger. CBS lobbied hard for this rule change; MoveOn.org members across the country lobbied against it; and now our ad has been rejected while the White House ad will be played. It looks an awful lot like CBS is playing politics with the right to free speech.
Of course, this is bigger than just the MoveOn.org Voter Fund. People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) submitted an ad that was also rejected.4 But this isn't even a progressive-vs.-conservative issue. The airwaves are publicly owned, so we have a fundamental right to hear viewpoints from across the ideological spectrum. That's why we need to let CBS know that this practice of arbitrarily turning down ads that may be "controversial" -- especially if they're controversial simply because they take on the President -- just isn't right.
To watch the ad that CBS won't air and sign our petition to CBS, go to: http://www.moveon.org/cbs/ad/. (If you want to skip the ad and just sign the petition, click here.) We'll deliver the petition by email directly to CBS headquarters.
You also may want to let your local CBS affiliate know you're unhappy about this decision. We've attached a list of the CBS affiliates in your state at the bottom of this email. Remember, a polite, friendly call will be most effective -- just explain to them why you believe CBS' decision hurts our democracy.
CBS will claim that the ad is too controversial to air. But the message of the ad is a simple statement of fact, supported by the President's own figures. Compared with 2002's White House ad which claimed that drug users are supporting terrorism,5 it hardly even registers.
CBS will also claim that this decision isn't an indication of political bias. But given the facts, that's hard to believe. CBS overwhelmingly favored Republicans in its political giving, and the company spent millions courting the White House to stop FCC reform.6 According to a well-respected study, CBS News was second only to Fox in failing to correct common misconceptions about the Iraq war which benefited the Bush Administration -- for example, the idea that Saddam Hussein was involved with 9/11.7
This is not a partisan issue. It's critical that our media institutions be fair and open to all speakers. CBS is setting a dangerous precedent, and unless we speak up, the pattern may continue. Please call on CBS to air ads which address issues of public importance today.
Sincerely, --Adam, Carrie, Eli, James, Joan, Laura, Noah, Peter, Wes, and Zack The MoveOn.org Team
P.S. Our friends at Free Press have put together a page which explains simply how CBS and the FCC rule change are integrally linked. Check it out at: http://www.mediareform.net/media/
The US is Now in the Hands of a Group of Extremists. Fundamentalism has Spawned an Ideology of American Supremacy.
by George Soros
The invasion of Iraq was the first practical application of the pernicious Bush doctrine of pre-emptive military action, and it elicited an allergic reaction worldwide - not because anyone had a good word to say about Saddam Hussein, but because we insisted on invading Iraq unilaterally without any clear evidence that he had anything to do with September 11 or that he possessed weapons of mass destruction. The gap in perceptions between America and the rest of the world has never been wider. Abroad, America is seen as abusing the dominant position it occupies; opinion at home has been led to believe that Saddam posed a clear and present danger to national security. Only in the aftermath of the Iraqi invasion are people becoming aware they have been misled.
