I went to getaway in the beginning of September and have to admit I liked it because it reminded me of home. A seaside place with wide sidewalks and bicycle paths- and houses that weren't all the same Florentine ochre. Where we stayed, maritime willow, oleander, laurel and tamerisk surrounded us.

Where I live, it's urban, and suicide just stepping out of the house. The roads are medieval and big trucks are forced to use them, so we haven't much choice.

At the seaside there was a secular umbrella pine forest stretching the length of the waterfront and another 10 km to the next village. A wide trail for bikes and pedestrians only cuts through the whole length of it and you can exit to find a beach trail at various points. In the centre section, the furthest point from both towns, we stepped out onto a wide stretch of sand, huge breakers in the torquoise Mediterranean, and had a little epiphany. I just didn't expect it to be so wild.
