Scott Sommers' Taiwan Weblog
The growing demand for quality language instruction in Taiwan has not been accompanied by an increase in information about jobs. A clearer understanding of the situation will assist students, educators, and employers in achieving a higher standard.

Kinmen is part of the ROC, but it is not part of Taiwan. It is the only part of mainland China that is still controlled by the Taipei government. Until recently, it was one of the most highly militarized zone on Earth. In 1958, the Communist government of China attacked Kinmen in what is now called the 823 Artillery Battle. Today, Kinmen is a blossoming tourist resort with a unique version of Taiwanese-Chinese culture.

Kinmen is extremely isolated. There is ferry to mainland China now, but you can only fly to Taiwan. This will cost you several hundred US dollars. I understand that there are no 7-11s in Kinmen.

The choice of living here must be made with the extreme conditions of the location in mind.
