I can't wait

Paper to publish 'letter from Saddam'

"The one-page message contains a reference to "betrayals" that led to the US military victory, an appeal to Iraqis to cast aside any differences and a warning that US-installed leaders will not bring them freedom." (thanks to Josh Marshall for that one)

This oughta be good!

Where IS the outrage?

Did our leaders lie to us? Do we even care?

I think I went through this phase last year.

We're not surprised

Tammy recently opined, and I agreed, that the one person who benefitted (in a good way) from the Iraq war was Elizabeth Smart.  Here's a couple of guys who sold their souls to the devil for a story that was (thankfully) a non-starter because the media were distracted.

Actually, Tammy, I was just looking into how to start a blog, and within moments, I was staring at my very own (empty) home page in a panic.  I was just poking around, I hadn't even chosen colors or fonts.  All we had was a name, and a motto.  Well, and opinions.  And I haven't given up on the compound idea.  It's just there was a run on duct tape and barbed wire and the plan's on hold.

By the way, I can vouch for Tammy's sources; I've been on that street with her and there were sources aplenty.  And melons as I recall...

Into the Breach
Oh dear, Laura what have you done?  How many phone calls have we had,
shootin' the breeze and making plans?  Remember the trip to Europe?  And
did I wake up to plane tickets?  Remember going to the Antiques
Roadshow?  Yet we were never dragging out the pottery and standing in
line.  And what about having a compound of our own?  Where are the land
deeds and the Feds?

But here it is the crack of noon and we have our own blog?  When did you get so efficient?  I mean, I've always known you have the tendency -- I've seen you pull a meal together quite impressively -- but goodness my, girl.  Here I am having to think and read and possibly write before I've even had my first proper cup of coffee.  And you've even dragged someone else into it already!  BTW, hey to you too, Miss Feva.  Thanks for the notice.

But as shaken as I may be, I certainly agree there are things to discuss.  I see you've started with the war and the Oscars -- worthy subjects but so last month.  Shouldn't it be outlandish rebuilding contracts, crony-ism, and the upcoming May sweeps?

Of course, I'm not prepared for any of this and you do have a point about the Oscars -- Julienne Moore's dress WAS hideous.  Even worse was in the pre-coverage one of the Rivers said she was brave for being a redhead and wearing green!  Everyone knows redheads are supposed to wear green -- it's red and pink that are forbidden.  Everybody knows this.

And what about the Oscar stories that never got mentioned?  My sources on the street in LA (do not mock me.  Just because I'm practically house-bound in the Northwest does not preclude my having street sources in LA) tell me there were huge anti-war protests assaulting the Limos all the way up Highland Ave.  Why did we only see a handful of pro-troops folks on a corner in the television coverage?  In fact, the whole media seems to be disappearing the peace protests.  Also, was it just me, or was Steve Martin out-and-out mean?  Not that I fault him for it, but still.  And what the hell was wrong with Salma Hayak?  She looked furious.  I've done my duty and scanned all the tabloids and can't find a word about any of this.

And I'm just so glad that it was the Dixie Chicks who posed naked on the cover of Entertainment Weekly this week, baring all for free speech, rather than Michael Moore -- can you imagine?  Of course, they may have been able to fit the Bill of Rights on him rather that just the few slogans that would fit on the Chicks.  But would anyone have had the stomach to read it?  I'm sure it was a real dilemma for the good folks at EW.

I'm off for more coffee,

Tammy

Okay, I lied

Bear with me; I didn't expect the blog to be set up so easily.  Now I'm scrambling to find something to say.

I'm a news junkie, so I will be commenting on current events, as well as a host of other topics.  My fellow Broad, Tammy, will weigh in soon with her attitude; but it may be a while until we find a focus. (if indeed we have one)

My comment about American Idol was sarcastic, however.  My disdain for "reality" programming is almost as great as my loathing for the neocons now running the world. Or attempting to... I hear Rummy's in Bagdhad; shouldn't there be some targeted looting?  Can someone at least lob a vase at him? Or 20 of them?

Anyhow, at least someone else is sharing my fears about this administration: http://www.sacbee.com/24hour/entertainment/books/news/story/851548p-5969687c.html

For me, it's a toss up between "The Handmaid's Tale" and the president in "The Dead Zone."  Be very afraid.

Yikes, late for work again...
