So I was talking with two female co-workers today, whose opinions I value and who I believe have more liberal tendencies. I said that I thought it was appalling that Janeane Garafalo's sitcom was cancelled, probably because she was speaking out against the war. So far, nothing she said has been proven to be a lie, and yet, her show was yanked as it was gearing up to be taped. Imagine my shock to hear these two women agree that there's nothing wrong with that, those people are nothing more than product, purchased by the studios, that actors don't get to have opinions, and if they do express them, they should be willing to take the consequences. I said that this was McCarthyism all over again, but no, my co-workers saw nothing wrong with a business yanking support from someone they deem bad for business.
Sometimes I wonder if we deserve democracy; I wonder if it might get people involved in their government again if we let Bush have his dictatorship and live a few decades like the Iraqis under Saddam. Do you think people might realize how good America can be? Nah. There are so many people willing to kiss up to the regime as it is, and I'll bet the waiting list to become an executioner would be miles long.
