How Macy's Sidesteps the Candy-Assed Liberal Legal System

From the New York Times

Looks like shopping at Macy's is a real adventure. You can sit on Santa's lap, or get strip-searched and handcuffed to a table. Reminds of that scene in Pulp Fiction in the store run by redneck bondage freaks.  

It seems that different department stores have wildly different approaches to the problem of shoplifting. I have it on good authority that a certain national chain (which I won't name) has an official policy of letting shoplifters walk right out of the store with their loot.
