Ol' Strom
This may surprise some readers, but I have to commemorate the passing of Strom Thurmond at age 100. Yes, he did run for president in 1948 on a pro-segregation platform, and yes, he did oppose civil rights throughout the 1960's. He did, however, gradually change his tune a bit. Unlike SOME PEOPLE (ahem) he did see the future. Compared to A CERTAIN REPUBLICAN WHO HAPPENS TO CHAIR THE SENATE RULES COMMITTEE he became downright liberal. So don't let anyone tell you that he represents the end of an era in the GOP, as long as SOME PEOPLE (ahem) still have influence.
