I LIVE !!!! With summer winding down into it's 'dog days' I am reflecting on some great work...
Whew... I can't believe it's mid August already. Parsifal, an opera that COlleen and I have been working on opened to great fanfare. It was for us, an absolute triumph, and I believe it sets a mark by which I'm quite comfortable being judged. The New York Times reviewer comented that perhaps we lacked imagination in the use of projection. I can't recall the last time I saw a scene change in opera that included an inverse chromatic mountain range pixelating madly into a psychedlic, lush, painted garden, but hey what do I know ! With the exception of the times reviewer (who liked the show, but just couldn't bring himself to say that without caveat), all the feedback is tremendous. Collaborating with a true great like Robert Israel was a priviledge, and a thrill. What a genius ! And Francois Rochaix, Michael Chybowski, everybody. This show was one of those rare gifts that comes every so often to people in the 'stage world' where everything works, is stunning, and everybody does work that is beyond the par. Mmmmm, mmm good.
Also managed to pump out revision after revision of the Holland America show, AND open Wedding Banquet in Tai Pei. Wedding Banquet will re-tech in Seattle in September, then off to NYC, theoretically.
September will see the return of Dame Edna to our fair shores (after extended touring down under), and I will be glad for it. We'll go get her re-lit and start aiming towards our Broadway production next year.
Colleen and I will be lecturing at LDI in Orlando in November. Come get the haps on the latest projection flavors. WIth the frenzy abated, I'll be trolling for my usual panapoly of information, and harvesting onto my Blog with much greater regularity.
