Observations about Life in Charlotte

It's hard to appear witty and sophisticated at the dentist's office lying on your back on an incline with your feet slightly higher than your head even if you are discussing your recent trip to Paris.

The lack of Trader Joe's makes any city appear small.  I just found "Fresh Market" in Charlotte which is close to TJ's, but it's still not the same thing.  Charlotte is waiting to hear about where TJ's is planning to open their next stores:  The southeast (YAY!) or Texas (BOOO).  One of the first things people who are interviewing for jobs ask is whether we have TJ's.  Not yet.

I'm two weeks into my summer vacation and I'm already behind.  I have projects upon projects to work on for "work" and projects upon projects to work on at home and I'm doing neither.  I did make a nice dinner last night, but that doesn't help the closests get organized.

I'm starting on a new research project which will include looking at work-family balance for telecommuters (among other things).  I'd like to see how well I can do that myself over the summer.  I don't want to do all work and I don't want to do all home.  I'd like to be able to do both in a way that I feel like I've accomplished something.  So I'm staring a rating system for work, home and "shit"--stuff I have to do which doesn't contribute to progress for home and work (e.g., the dentist).  The meaning of the ratings:

_:  Didn't do squat

*:  Appeared to have done something, but really didn't

**: OK, but could do more.

***:  The goal--progress made.  Feel good about this area.

****:  Too much focus, must stop here now.

Yesterday's scores:

Work: __  Home: * Shit: **

This should last about a week until I'm bummed about how little work/home I'm doing and how much shit.
