An Update on the Garden
At the last update, the pole beans had actually started to emerge. They are continuing to grow, reinforcing our belief that it helps to actually plant the seeds. The one carrot in our carrot patch, unfortunately, was not a carrot but a very large weed we were tenderly caring for. It's gone now, and we're hoping the other things that have grown around it are really carrots and not baby weeds. We also determined, after harvesting 6 radishes over 2 weeks, that we planted to radishes too close together and they didn't actually turn into radishes. I pulled them all up Sunday.
What we think is spinach is making progress, but it could just be some funky ivy. If it really is spinach, then we pulled half of it earlier on thinking it was a weed. The peas are doing better now that I've put them on a trellis. They are actually shaking their little pea hips in joy for being out of the mud. I didn't know they needed a trellis! (Dave: I didn't know they had hips) I'm sorry little peas! The one sunflower who fell over is making an effort, but we aren't sure it's enough. There are 3 leaves at the top that don't look wilted. Everything else is sad.
So plants doing well:
- Squash
- Tomatoes
- Peppers
- Eggplants
- Cukes
- Rosemary, Chives (that won't die if we try to kill them), Mint, Basil
Plants looking sketchy:
- Onions
- Beets
- Sunflower(s)
- Carrots
- Garden peas
- Spinach
- Cantalope (it is REALLY trying, but it hasn't really grown since we planted it)
- Sage, Oregano
Plants RIP
- Radishes
- Parsley, Tarragon (it tarried, and then it was gone)
Why on earth did gardening seem so easy when I was growing up!?
