Interior Designer, Part Deux

After spending the first part of yesterday driving back and forth to Dave's work (a total of 3.5 hours although lunch was involved during the second trip, but I was whiny about the small size of my salad so it wasn't really a treat.  Poor Dave--he's a good husband to me), we met with the second interior designer.

We like H very much.  She had some good ideas about the garage to office conversion.  She knows feng shui which is sadly important to us (me) after living in Los Angeles for 10 years.  (She commented on the bed in our guest room being against the window, which I acknowledged was bad feng shui and she laughed knowingly.)  She gets the Arts & Crafts stuff in the house but also appreciates our interest in a more modern look.  And she explained to me the style of the some of our furniture and moldings around the house, which I really like.  She knows shit.

And being the snooty pants that we are (I am), we (I)  liked that she's been in the Charlotte Observer, a couple of magazines, and regularly works on the arts guild Showcase house, which very modern and stylish. Soooooo, we like her!

And she thinks the garage to office renovation should be relatively few $$.  Although cheap ass that I am, anything over $ freaks me out.  I know that this house is a "plus" in the neighborhood because the previous owners didn't skimp on the good stuff.  And I know that a bay window looking into the back yard from the office would be very pretty both from the inside and the out.  But a rough estimate of $1000 (just for THAT WINDOW) makes me get all shallow breath-y and NO NO NO screams through my head!

Maybe I should take a part time job waiting tables this summer.  This is the first summer I haven't worked in years, and I am focusing on research....mostly.....but we could really use the extra $$.  Ok.  I'm a prof.  It's more like extra $.  Maybe even more like extra cents.  (I can't find the key for cents).

We did decide after last weekend's binge buying at Home Depot that there are to be no more trips to Tar-jay or Home Dep-Ott until August.  And maybe not until after then.  Living within one's means is not very fun.

Tonight we go back to doggie school.  We missed last week's class taking care of Savannah.

Now, I must go earn my summer off by thinking some great thoughts.
