WOOHOO!  WOOHOO!  We Won!  WOOHOO!!

That was supposed to be the title of this entry, and technically, it still is.  But my current state of mind has drastically changed.  Now, it is: I feel like compete and utter dog shit.  My head is an alcohol soaked melon about to explode.  I have an enormous amount of work to do today, and i can barely sit upright in this chair.

Soooo, last night was the final Charlotte Pops Sunday in the Park Concert.  Catherine the Great, Johnny (Who's Johnny!!?), Blainey Pants, Steve (of the famous ceiling fan endeavors), Dave and I met for a picnic and way, way, way, way, way, way, too much wine and champagne before and after the concert.   The highlight of the concert......well, first let me share the lowlight.  That's when we were asked to keep it down because people couldn't hear the music, despite the fact that we (and they) were sitting 6 feet in front of the mega speakers.  (Catherine, we really did listen to the music, but there may have been some talking involved at one point).  I've always been at the loudest table in any restaurant, and now, I can claim the honor of being at the loudest blanket at the concert, too.  Okay!

So, the highlight.  Yesterday was the Picnic Contest at the concert.  Everybody was supposed to be all fancy and bring their Best Picnic to the pre-concert party.  We didn't do that, but we did give an effort.  Catherine and Johnny brought an amazing bouquet of flowers from the Farmer's Market and some yummy homemade Potato Salad in a pretty pottery bowl.  Blainey and Steve brought a delish fruit salad.  We contributed candles (many of which my Mom had made), a Ricotta Torta, cucumber salad (with Cukes from our garden), and bruscetta doctored up with a tomato and basil from the garden.  I know I've forgotten something important, but see the above to understand why.

And why am I listing all our food knowing that I am not the Julie/Julia project?!  Well, apparently, there were judges for the picnic spreads.  Dave flagged one down and we explained all our goodies emphasizing the home made aspects of it.  (Mom--she was impressed with the candles)  We may have exaggerated a bit ("Are those flowers from your garden?  Sure!" Well, they're from someone's garden.  They were in a garden at some point.)  We had to give our picnic a name "Southern Friends at the Theater":  that was my contribution.  And you can see that even early on, there was too much wine.

So, we WON!  We won the Most Traditional picnic theme.  We didn't mean to, but we did.  I was pretty honkin' excited.  The prize was a basket full of picnic goodies including two fresh sandwiches which really doesn't make sense. If we won a picnic contest, why do we need more food?! But whatever!  I was psyched.  There were two other picnic theme prizes after ours including the best theme overall.  But we actually won one!  What a hoot!

So that was last night's highlight.  I am today's lowlight, maybe better put, today's lowlife.   I think I shall have to do some manual labor today because I cannot induce my brain to rise out of the alcohol to function.  Second coat of deck stain, here I come!
