Blogs I Read
So here's something I never thought I'd say....Last night, we had some rose wine with dinner, and it was good. Both the LA Times and our local fancy, schmancy wine shop had information this week on dry rose wines. (You may need to register for the LA Times to read the article; it's free.) I thought that all rose wines were white zins but they are not! They can come from Pinot Noirs and lots of other really good reds, but are lighter and softer for the summer. We had a couple of bottles (with Cath) of dry roses--they were not sweet at all. They were spicy but lighter than a red wine but with a deeper more complex taste than a white. I'd say try it! My fave was the Cotes du Rhone rose from Domaine de la Janasse, but I think any rose Cotes du Rhone would be good.
I burnt the crap out of the veggies we were grilling. I usually make the fire (we use charcoal not gas, because we are cheap ass---and we scored a free grill from the Harris Teeter grocery store here for shopping there 12 out of 15 weeks. So actually, we're really, really cheap ass). Anywho, Dave made the fire and it was a boy's fire--it was actually hot. Hence, the veggies were a wee bit charred. I also tried a new salmon cooking trick: layer the grill with thinly sliced lemons and dill from the garden, put the fillet of salmon skin side down in it and wait until it looks done. Our free Harris Teeter grill lets you remove the grill top, so we were able to bring the salmon in and working together lift the fillet off the grill onto the serving platter without breaking it. We have an amazing fish monger right by our house, so even though salmon isn't local here, they fly it in and it was YUMMY! The peach ice cream was worth every cream and sugar filled calorie. I don't remember ice cream tasting like that before.
I cleaned the entire house yesterday....well, except for this room and cleaning the floors, but it's the first time MOST of the house has been clean in months. Scarlett is making major efforts to win her place in the house back from Patches. I really thing Patches just wants to play with her and sort of herd her. He definitely wants to sniff her butt. But she's having none of that. We're going to be cat-sitting Cole, Catherine's cat, while she's in Carmel at the Bach Festival. I'm sure there will be lots to talk about then!
Off to finish the deck staining today while the sun still shines. I pick up the wedding pictures and album on Tuesday! WOOHOO!
