Blogs I Read
Semi-Random Thoughts
So tomorrow, we're running 16 miles. Oddly enough, after nearly 4 years of running marathons, 16 miles is not a long run. However, it still gets my attention. As mentor of our running group, I sent email out discussing the perils of running in hot, humid weather, mainly, the problems of a salty sweater. I have personal experience. We salty sweaters need to ....

The parental sonar just kicked in. Patches was just apprehended dashing into the back yard, bag full of pupperonis in snout.
OK. Salty sweaters lose their ability to absorb water in long runs. This causes a loss of energy and can cause naseau. How do you know you're a salty sweater? White salt crystals all over your face, arms, and clothes after sweating. How do you prevent it? Drink gatorade early on. If severe, take a salt tablet.
So after sending out all that information and more in the group email, I went on a 6 mile run with some of the group at 5:30 pm, 88 degrees, 90+ % humidity. Halfway through, I'm wheezing, I have no energy and I'm sweating like a wild woman. Recalling that I only had 2 glasses of water all day, I realize that I'm not in the best shape for a hot, humid run. Going home, I scratch my arm and realize that I am really dirty. But Noooo. I'm not really dirty; I'm really salt crusty. A six mile run and I turn into a salt lick. (The cats and dog really like it) I wish the newbie runners would have been around then because then I could show them what a salty sweater looks like.
So, last night, after cleaning up, Dave and I watched Queer Eye for the Straight Guy which we had taped Tuesday night. Oh. My. God. That was hysterical! And we were totally rooting for the makeover dude. He was so cute, and you know he and his muse/model chick are going to hook up. We also picked up a few fashion/culture tips, although I'm not a big fan of large, antique belt buckles. That is totally my new favorite show. Well, that and Worst Witch on HBO Family. So a gay/straight makeover show and a kids show are my husband and my favorite TV shows. That's why we are the perfect couple. To throw in some coolness, we also are stay-at-home-and-don't-call-us fans of Sundays on HBO: Sex and the City, Six Feet Under, The Sopranos. But now that the Buffy and Farscape series are over, we're moving on to QEftSG and Worst Witch.
