Food

So I started the South Beach diet thingy on Sunday.  Whazzup?  Well, I'm eating a lot of protein and I'm having an extra side of vegetables with my side of vegetables and salad.  Anything happen?  Well, I've lost 5 pounds since Sunday.  It's Friday. That seems like a lot to me.  It's all water though.  I know this b/c I'm setting new personal records (PRs) in the bathroom dash.  Another difference is that I'm really, really, realllllly hungry when I wake up in the morning.  Dave and I both are charging out of the bed to start breakfast.

I'm not really hungry most other times, except the late afternoon.  I'm having to bring more snacks to work to keep from eating my own flesh on the commute home.  (Dave thinks the tongue biting incident is taking a pro-protein diet a bit too far)  I've only cheated once (not counting some wine I had.  It's cheating, but I'm not going to count it).  Dave and I had our first cantalope as an appetizer for dinner yesterday.  Bwahahahaha!  I don't regret it! (Fruit is verbotem for the first two weeks)  And I figure as far as cheating goes, a cantalope is like declaring a $150 used clothing charitable donation to the Salvation Army on your tax forms instead of the $125 your ugly ass old clothes were really worth.  (Is that really bad?  Did I just out myself to the IRS?)

I'm not craving pasta like I thought I would.  When I'm hungry, what I really want is a big chunk of cheese.  I just don't have any extra chunks stored at the office.  (Note to self:  hide more cheese in office refridgerator)  My runs have been a bit slower this week--but I think that's due in part to running with Patches and the 200% humidity levels.  I do know one day this week, I really needed to eat something before I ran, and I couldn't figure out what.  By mile 2, I had real hunger pains.  But what to eat?  Eggs before a run just weeb me out.  Maybe V-8?

What I think I'm really going to like about this "diet"/lifestyle is that carbos are not the enemy.  (Although  potatoes are considered evil on a stick) For carbos, you just need to eat whole wheat pasta and brown rice.  And not at every meal.  Dave and I do that anyway when we're being healthy.  I'm looking forward to phase 2 and adding fruit back into the mix.

Final pet update of the week:  Dave and I believe Cole and Duncan are ganging up against Scarlett.  I saw it last weekend, but thought I was being paranoid about my cat.   I noticed them chasing her through the cat part of the house, and not in a fun, let's-play-chase way.  Last night, Dave came into the bathroom and Scarlett was against the wall with Duncan and Cole, ears back and hissing, in front of her.  And Duncan is such a big ol' wuss.  He's known Scarlett for years and has never pounced her except in play.  Another boy comes in, and now he's flashing gang signs and wearing his baseball cap backwards.  But of course, neither he nor Cole will leave the cat side of the house if Patches is free. Meanwhile Scarlett and Patches have been napping close to each other during the day.  Yeah Duncan.  You're a bad ass cat.   And Cole.  Cole.  Honey.  You aren't really such a tough cat if your idea of fun is to put your favorite toy in the water dish.  That's just weird.  And inconvenient for the other kitties.

I also have to admit that after Dave noticed the boys bonding against Scarlett, I really missed Savannah.  She would not have put up with that at all.  She would have made clear that she was the queen and no one attacks her little sister.  Have I mentioned that at her largest, Savannie was 23 lbs?  She was an amazon kitty.  She was HUGE.

OK.  To work.  Not as many great thoughts yesterday as I had Wednesday, but I also didn't bite my tongue.  Let's hope today remains as positive!
