The Study
So this weekend's major task is cleaning up and reorganizing the Study. The study is where we have deposited all the books, papers, pictures and general junk for our first year here. Yesterday's task was to sort the papers and files into Trash, Financial, Bills, "Information" (recipes, training, garden and home remodel articles) and the wedding shit that we haven't put away yet. We are also going to move some of the books and the book shelves out of this crowded study to the garage and also put some in the "Garage Sale" box. (We are both pack rats with books, and we don't need all the 1000 or so books that we have.)
Our big news though is that we bought our first piece of furniture together yesterday. We bought it from an antique dealership nearby--it's an "occassional" table. We have a funky open closet space off our dining room which used to be pantry when the dining room was the kitchen. We're making it into a "wine closet". My dad made us a huge wine rack for one side of the pantry/closet and we're going to buy glass racks/shelves for the other side. The small occassional table goes in the middle and draws one's attention into the space. We decided to put a mirror over the table, and I do think it looks very nice!
A weird thing happened yesterday while cleaning---I found some pictures we took of the house before we moved in and the old owner moved out. We have the exact same comforter on our bed that the old owner had. Same color. Same texture. Same pillow shams. Everything. The comforter is very unusual because it's not a typical fabric used in comforters and it's a very subtle sage color. We also looked around and saw that many of the things we've done are similar to what he did---except for a couple of major things like he had a deer head on the wall and we have a wine closet (he had glass shelves in that space and we've opted to have live instead of dead animals in the house. Well, I guess Savannah's ashes count. But then, we didn't stuff her and display her on a shelf). We have a lot more furniture than he did as the result of being old farts combining households, and I think a little less would add a lot more to our space. I think a lot of this we can use in the garage once its remodeled, and I just wonder if we ought to go ahead and move some stuff out there already. (Actually, *I* think we should; others have yet to be convinced)
Today, we're going to refile and remove things from the study. We also decided to replace my old TV which spontaneously turns on and off on its own accord. That can't be good. There's a 20 inch TV at Circuit City for $70, so that will be our last big purchase. (we are poor. $70 is a lot of money) I also hope we can cut some shelves for the built in's in the living room and put some of our nicer books and stuff out there. The built ins currently contain unorganized crap, so anything will be an improvement there.
OK. Time to go be heathen shoppers while the rest of Charlotte is in church. At least we can beat the crowds.
