Bloggus Interruptus

We received an unexpected phone call on Sunday morning.  My Dad had to go to the emergency room Saturday night.  Thank goodness that it turns out that his ticker is completely fine--"Above normal" the doctor says.  But they kept him over Sunday night for "observation." They just released him yesterday afternoon after running a whole series of tests.  (Dad had by-pass surgery 8 years ago so we're a little sensitive to what is heart is doing.)

That's truly one of those amazingly crappy and unexpected events even though it turned out OK.  My Mom and Dad are very active physically.  And they are having the time of their lives---golfing, travelling, going on romantic, wine filled dates with each other.  It's really cute.  And something like that just scares the rest of us about their mortality.  It's not fair for us to tell them to sit quietly at home and eat nothing more dangerous than chicken broth and bread, but it sometimes seems like a good idea on occassion.  We're all just relieved that Dad and Mom are doing fine now.

As for the garden update----we have a few evil morning glory vines wending their way through our currenty healthy plants, which at this point are only the eggplant and the tomatoes.  The chard is still growing, but there's a big flashing neon Bug Buffet sign over them and the remaining leaves look too picked over to be appetizing.  The eggplant and the tomatoes, though, those are happening.  And the okra!  I almost forget that they are producing a couple per day.  Last week, I was so slammed at work that I didn't get to pick them and they were huge like bananas by the time I harvested them.  That's  a little scary.  We're having tomatoes at nearly every meal.  That's a little scary, too.  And there are weeds besides the morning glory (which as a plant really bugs me) making inroads into the garden.

We're trying to water the garden this morning with our rain barrel and the soak hose.  But the water is not coming through the soak hose.  There is no soaking going on.  I think I may have to hook the soak hose up to our regular water, but it's frustrating me that our very full rain barrel is not watering as advertised.

OK.  I'm working at home today.  I swear to you that I am slammed this semester.  I worked both days this weekend and could work for 14 hours today and not be close to caught up on everything I have to do.  I was on campus 12 hours yesterday and tomorrow is my mega 13 hour day.  I'm also really worried that my stress level is not at a good place for conceiving.  (The beginning of a vicious cycle?)  Yesterday, I kept doing yoga deep breath exercises every time I felt tense. So, uhmmm, about every other hour, I'm deep breathing with my U-jai breath.

As I finish blogging---Shoulders down.  Back straight.  Deep breath.  I start to work.
