Blogs I Read
This semester is about to kill me. I was utterly exhausted yesterday. To the point where I contemplated lying down on my floor and taking a nap. Instead I had some peppermint tea. But I was exhausted before I taught my night class.
Dave and I slept in this morning until 7 am. We've both been getting up around 5:30 to meet friends to run or exercise some other way. I just needed to sleep. Especially after a night class when I come home wired and hungry and it takes a while to calm down. After teaching night classes, I have an immense respect for people who work and go to class at night. I like those students a lot because they are more dedicated and often have a lot of interesting things to add to class discussions. I have no idea how they can stay alert on the job and in class too! I can't!!
News on the landscaping front: we received a notice last night that they are going to put a sidewalk down our street. This is a good thing. Our neighborhood is one of the friendliest in the city due in large part to our small streets and sidewalks. Our street does not have a sidewalk despite being very popular with cars and pedestrians. Sooooo: Good Thing. ANd if there's a good thing, that means there's a bad thing. The bad thing is that we're losing 9 feet off the front of our yard. THANK GOODNESS we didn't do the landscaping yet!!!! We would have invested $X000 in something that was going to be torn up. And thank goodness I'm married to a man who understood what that all meant. I read the letter and basically interpreted it as blah blah blah they are doing something with sidewalks to our neighborhood. I don't understand why we can read the same thing and I have absolutely no idea what it is saying and Dave has to translate it into English for me.
Dave is going to call the contractors or whoever/whatever is in charge of the work and see what the scoop is. We're going to lose a tree and our four mature azalea bushes, as well as part of the new landscape bed. I also want our landcape architect to revise our designs to incorporate a sidewalk! And I need to call our contractor and let him know what is going on! We're scheduled to "go" with the work on Oct 20th! I hope we can have everything revised by then. Or should we wait until the sidewalk is in????
Again, we're happy to have a sidewalk. That's a good thing for our community. I'm just bummed to have to rush around now and make all these changes. Our front yard will be smaller, but in our community that's fine. People always hang out in their front yards to talk with their neighbors. Everyone has a front porch swing.
OK. Off to work as a rested person.
