Dirty Dawg
I failed to mention earlier that Murin, the dog across the fence, came to visit Patches on Thursday. Murin is a husky with lots of energy and a devious nature. Murin found some sort of dead smelly thing in the ivy and decided to roll in it. Patches thought that was fun! Fortunately, we have some doggie cologne so Dave sprayed him off and we could let him in the house.
Yesterday, while working at home, a truly foul odor surrounded me at my desk (Hey! Not that!) and I noticed that Patches had decided if one roll was good, two rolls were studly. Unfortunately, Patches is neutered. So that does him no good.
This morning, I came back from our run later than Dave did. (Dave did 23; I only did 10. He gets bragging and napping rights today. And he came back earlier b/c he started at 5:00 am and I started at 7:30) Anywho, I drive up and I'm thinking, Patches looks really brown. He's a white collie. I figured he was standing in a shadow. Dave walks out of the house and asks "Have you ever seen such a dirty dog?" Patches decided three rolls make a buffet of fun.
We gave Patches his first home bath today. It went really well. He didn't seem to mind too much once both of us were in the there giving him attention. Scarlett came in for most of the bath and felt vindicated in her belief that THAT THING is TRULY EVIL if it subjected to the horror of running water. Truly, her eyes were blared and I could just hear her kitty mind thinking "I knew it! I knew it!! That big noisy thing is not normal!"
You would not believe the amount of red North Carolina dirt we washed out of Patches. He looks and smells a lot better. I'm not convinced that he's squeaky clean, but he's no longer squeamishly dirty. And we know we can wash the puppy!! I've never done that before and it was not that bad. We do need to clean his ears more often. He was fine with us cleaning them (using cotton balls and alcohol) but they were a bit scary.
OK. Must go check that he's not rolling on dead things.
