Garden Update
The roma tomatoes continue to hurl themselves at us when we approach the garden. The bushes have taken over most of the tomato space. Wait. There is only one roma bush. It has taken over most of the tomato space sending its branches into the other tomatoes' spaces. One branch actually dove into the dirt of a walkway through the garden and has emerged in the middle of the pole bean trellis. We're happy to have 'em! But they are a bit obscene in their productivity. The only other tomato plant that is doing anything is the yellow tomatoes. They are so pretty raw, but they make a really putrid colored sauce. (Thus, not recommended for cooking)
We getting the last of the okra. The stalks, however, are showing signs of root rot. We found three nice sized cucumbers and sauteed them for dinner last night. Yummm. I picked the last of the Japanese eggplants and one nice sized "regular" eggplant. The chives and rosemary are very happy right now. The basil is still green, but the plant is starting to lean over. I don't think that's a good sign.
We're definitely going to make the garden bigger next spring. My concern is that the landscaper has this idea for an herb garden at the end (the plans are quite pretty), but I believe that will put the herbs in the shade all summer. Anywho, we have a while before we worry about that.
Other news: Sergio finally ate this morning! Bettas are apparently very picky and he had not eaten since we brought him home. This morning he gobbled up 3 out of 4 food pellets! Yay!!
Off to work.
