Classical Music

Dave's Expectant Father book says that the baby can hear what is going around him now and that it's important for Dad to talk to the baby so that he will recognize Dad's voice.  Poor bunny hears my yapping allllllllllllllll day long, so Dad needs to get a few words in edgewise to he will know both parental units!  An interesting story is from a conducter who discussed finding it very easy to conduct particular cello solos during concerts.  The conductor told his cello playing mother about this, thinking that clearly he had picked up an affinity for cellos from his mom.  Mom informed him that actually, the cello solos he was most comfortable with were the ones that she played while he was pregnant.  Cool, huh?

Yes, that's an anecdotal story.  Nonetheless, we're blasting the belly with classical music.  (BTW--if anyone has a good baby friendly classical CD to recommend, give me a hollar!)  Research does show that complicated music (e.g., classical) does increase IQ points.  Why?  We don't know.  Perhaps the structure and patterns of classical music increase brain synapses.  And there is no evidence of this occurring in utero.  Nonetheless, it's nice to listen to.  So we're all going to be listening to it for a few more months to come.

War Protester Kitty

Duncan turns into a war protesting kitty while we sleep.  No, he doesn't carry signs "Hell No, We Won't Go...Outside" or "No War for Tuna Oil" or "Make Purrs, Avoid Furs" or "No Claws for War" or "Get Rid of the Dog" across the bed.  Instead, as soon as he finds the warmest spot he can snuggle up against, he goes as limp as an activist at a sit in. (or I suppose a "lie" in)  Despite being 15 lbs, it's really difficult to move him so we can turn over.  We have to rouse ourselves out of sleep to give a good leg kick or actually have to sit up, pick him up, and toss him on the other person.  And his new favorite spot is between Dave and me, so any cold night snuggling involves hurling a cat across the bed, which sorta dampens to mood.   I used to just roll around him, twirling around his chose position.  But cranky mama is starting to give the protester a swift kick to get him moving.  And though it may not be a literal paw raised in obscene gesture, the resulting meow is a good substitute.

Snow Loving Dog

Patches is loving the remaining ice and snow in the yard.  Despite the fact that he now slips whenever he gets some speed on him, his favorite spot is outside lying in the snow and chewing a bone.  This morning, Dave spotted him carrying snout-fulls of ice-snow around the yard and tossing them around like a new toy.  This cold weather loving certainly explains those awful runs last summer when he refused to take another step.  This dog likes to hunt in cold weather only.

Off to the Chiropractor and then to work.  I might try running this weekend.  The PS pain has decreased and I'm feeling strong.
