Sergio's Trip to the Loo

You may recall we have a betta, Sergio.  Although he has not performed any heroics like Dory, the betta who put out a fire in an elementary school, we like him and he seems to like us.  Unfortunately, we've been having a problem with algae developing in his tank.  Every three weeks, it turns a nasty shade of green and we have to clean it out and put him in a cup for a couple of hours.  He doesn't particulary like this and once I clipped a fin which made me feel very guilty.

Well, Dave went to the fish store last weekend and asked how we could solve this problem.  Mr. Fish Man said that sunlight was to blame and we had to get the tank out of even indirect sunlight.  (Un)Fortunately, we live in a very sunny house, and the only room with no sunlight---direct or indirect is the BUB--the formerly Butt Ugly Bathroom which has no windows. 

So, we've set up Sergio in the loo.  He seems to like it, and I do get to spend some one on one time with him throughout the day.  The only weird thing that happens is that when I wash my face (he's near the sink) he goes wild!!  He swims up and down his tank.  He gets very agitated and speeds about.  I don't know whether it's the running water or the soapy face, but my evening routine sets the fish on the edge.

I'm not sure he's going to stay there forever.  If he stays algae free for a 2 months, we may move him to the upper bookshelf in the living room.  It does not get much sun at all.  Of course, we'll never see him again either.  And that doesn't seem the point of having a fish.

Baby related news:  We've started looking around at our daycare options.  There are a couple of local ones and one near Dave's office which seem good.  YIKES this is going to be scary. 

Must run off to enjoy Dave's home cooked breakfast before I go to work!
