I am So Overwhelmed

We just got back from what was supposed to be a casual trip to the baby furniture store.  All these decision we "need" to make:  what crib?  What manufacturer?  What color wood?  What color wood for the rocker/glider?  What fabric color for the rocker?  What "theme" are we going with the baby's room?  What color are we painting the baby's room?  Will the new furniture match the changing dresser we already have?  Have much of "not matching" will bug me?

I can't even decide what color to paint our room.  Now I have to organize an entire baby's room with absolutely no baby room decorating experience.  Without even being around kids in forever.

YIKES!

Remodeling Woes

Today was supposed to be the day that we started painting the middle bedroom to turn it into the "master" bedroom.  "Master" in quotes because we live in a 1940's cottage with tiny bedrooms.  I was ready to buy the dark sage sage paint yesterday and start painting today.  Oh, and big thanks to soon-to-be-published decor goddess and sometimes grumpy girl Alyssa for suggesting 1) folding the large poster board in a corner to see how the color reflects off itself as well as 2) stenciling the accent color around the room in an Arts and Crafts style to match the house.

So I was supposed to buy the paint yesterday, but I woke in panic, afraid that we'd be painting our sunniest room too dark of a color.  I absolutely love the wall color, but I'm not sure it's right with our furniture and comforter.  And I don't think it will be the best option in that particular room.  So I called in the reinforcements yesterday--our architectural firm.  I specifically called our young architect for an interior designer recommendation--someone who would come out for an hour and say "GOOD LORD, NO!" or "Hey, this looks good!"  Also, we're trying to figure out how to make the baby's room fit in with the rest of the house, but still function as a nursery.  Hopefully, they'll recommend someone cheap and good.

The more woeful part of the remodeling comes from Dave's area of expertise--the roof.  During the rain Thursday night, Dave awoke to a pretty nasty drip coming out of the ceiling in the bathroom.  It's pretty messed up in there.  The good news, I pointed out to Dave, is that there was no other leakages in the usual spots--the ceiling fan over the bed, the walls of the soon-to-be-new bedroom, etc.  So the tarp is working.  However, Dave is right in worrying that something is majorly wrong with our stupid ass FLAT ROOF and we have to fix it soon. His 4:00 am idea (which I liked) is that he would strip the old roof off next weekend, build more of an incline, and then shingle it.  Unfortunately, that requires a building permit and an inspection and we don't even know what the code is.

So, Dave hopped on Angie's list and found a construction co/contractor who also does remodels and he's coming out today to check out what can be done.  The problem is that years ago, they used a tar patch (?), pitch (?) construction on flat roofs which left seams.  We're getting water through the seams.  Now they put a big rubberized pad down on it which eliminates the seams and prevents the leaks.  Of course, the dude also said that actually regrading or repitching the roof would cost about the same amount of money as the rubber pad.  Bleah.  It's more $$ than we want to spend on a roof when there's work we have to do inside.  But it's something we absolutely have to get done ASAP.

So no remodeling today.  We are going to stop by Mecklenberg Furniture today which Angie's List said had a good interior decorator and see what he has to offer.  Apparently, he's only $40/hour which would be a very good price.

I tried running this morning at the gym.  5 minutes of pain free running and 25 minutes to remind me that I will not be running again "on land" until the bun is popped out of the oven.

Time to clean.....
