Curly Girl Update

Following on yesterday's post and the resulting comments, I have some more information.

First, every curly girl's curls are different.  Hence, why it's so difficult to give (and take) advice!  For example, I have incredibly thick hair.  I know that you probably think you have thick hair, too.  But let me tell you, I've met only one or two other people in my life with hair as thick as mine.  I can make a pony tail of one side of my hair which is about the equivalent of most "thick" haired pony tails.

I also have very long hair.  My hair, when I pull it straight, is past my waist.  This isn't even the longest I've had my hair, but it's really, really long.  So you've got the picture, right?  Thick, long, curly hair!

And yes, Alyssa is completely right.  We curly girls have to put product on our hair immediately after getting out of the shower.  The more sopping wet the hair, the better the ringlet curls.  And yes, I actually have to divide up my hair to put the product on.  One handful (yes handful) on the right and one on the left for two my favorite Sebastian products:  Potion #9 and their icky brown Texturizer.  The texturizer keeps the curls curly.  I'm also experimenting with some Sebastian anti-frizz creme and their curl laminates, but those are usually extras for special occassions.  I'm always on the look out for new products, so keep the ideas and recommendations comin'!

Usually at this point, I clip my hair up in front to give it a little volume and let it air dry.  however, today's a snow day and what do I have to lose?  I decided to try Alyssa's recommendation of upside down diffusing.  Just as an aside, Ouidad totally says you can't turn upside down when your hair is wet.  Let me go on record as saying they are wrong!

Generally, I hate diffusing my hair because it takes so long.  I can wash my hair in the morning and let it air dry and on some days, parts of it are still wet when I go to bed.  So a proper diffusing can take 45 minutes or so.  Today, I finished diffusing when it was mostly dry.  I know Alyssa says is going to frizz, but I was getting dizzy and I can only stare at my humongous belly so long.  But the good news is that it IS faster to diffuse upside down instead of right side up.

So, what happened?  I turned upright to a headful of long ringlets from top to bottom!  I must say---a good call from Alyssa!!!  I'm hoping it doesn't frizz b/c I can't stay that long upside down to dry my hair.  But I'm liking the style!  I still have to figure out what to do with some stray curls; I'm thinking it's about time for a hair cut.

And I'm still not using shampoo.  I challenge you, curly chicks, to give it up for a while and see what happens.  And keep posting info.  We curly cultists have to stick together.

Holy Freakin' Cow

I have never seen so much snow in my life.  Not in Connecticut, not in NYC and never in North Carolina.  I measured over 14 inches on our front porch and I have a feeling that there's more out in the yard.  We apparently got 11.5 more inches of snow overnight!

Quick aside:  I can see Patches bounding through the snow right now happier than he would ever be in the heat and humidity in the summer.  He loves this snow and is making all kinds of paths in his favorite part of the yard.  He's a child on a snow day!  The only problem is that the snow matts in his fur which makes for an interesting clean up when he comes back in.

Needless to say, they've closed UNCC for the second day.  Yesterday I was able to get a lot of writing done, so I'm hoping I can do so again today.

I'm hoping I can take some picture with our new digital camera and post them so that you can see just how much snow that is.  It's truly beautiful out there.  But I have honestly never seen this much snow at one time.  It's way cool!

And yes, Dave left at 6:00 this morning to go pick up nurses at his job.  He's has 4 wheel drive and has a lot of snow driving experience, but I'm anxiously awaiting his phone call that he made it to work OK.
