Blogs I Read
A few weeks ago, I bought a body pillow. The purpose of this pillow is to provide support to one’s legs and belly while sleeping on one’s side. After 16 weeks, pregger chicks are not supposed to sleep on their backs and really, they are only supposed to sleep on their left side.
It sounds so cut and dry, but the advice on this is not. According the some experts, sleeping on one’s back is fine during a normal pregnancy. Others say that it puts the full weight of the baby and uterus on the “inferior vena cava” which despite its lowly name is a major artery. I’ve heard that if you don’t feel dizzy, it’s ok to lie on one’s back for a little while. Which, at this point, is how I’d rather go to sleep. So that’s what I’m sticking to right now, even though I still feel guilty when I wake up on my back.
So, back to the body pillow. I do like the body pillow. It is a good snuggle, but it takes up so much space. And you can only snuggle on one side unless you move the pillow when you switch sides—a move that is much harder than it sounds considering the covers, sheets and various felines strewn about. This weekend, I was trapped between the pillow on one side and
I believe that when I can’t sleep on my back anymore without getting dizzy, I’ll let the body pillow back in the bed. And then Dave and I will switch place in the bed so I can put it on the leftmost side of the bed and lie that way. It’s really a pain. I’d rather be sleeping on my belly, but that feels like I’m sleeping on a grapefruit.
Off to work. It’s 57 degrees outside right now and we’re going up to 70. 15 inches of snow on a Friday day and 70 degrees on a Tuesday. It’s absolutely gorgeous out there.
