I have a confession to make

I went running on Tuesday.  I know it wasn't the wisest thing to do.  But it was as if I'd given up alcohol for Lent and had awoken Easter morning on a beach in the Carribean beside a pitcher full of fresh margaritas and salt rimmed glasses.  And basket of chips.  And salsa.  And fresh guacamole.  Ummmmmmmmm.  Wait.  Wrong fantasy.

I went running Tuesday morning.  I woke up not next to margaritas, but to the next best thing for a runner:  our first cool yet warm day of spring.  It was 57 F degrees and I could not imagine going to the gym.  So I put on my on my running shoes and my big chested woman sports bra and did a 3.5 mile run.  I was a lot slower than the last time I ran over 2 months ago.  But it felt great.  And my cross training has paid off: I was not dying at any point in the run even going up hill.  I was about 1 1/2 minutes slower per mile but I think that's to be expected at this stage of the pregnancy.

I really felt great most of the run and I didn't feel sore in my pubis symphysis...during the run.  Afterwards, I paid for that run in every step I took for the rest of the day.  It's not cured.  Yesterday was less sore.  And today (Thursday), I'm not sore at all.  But Tuesday I paid for my pleasure.  Sort of like drinking a pitcher of margaritas after 40 days of abstinence.

There has been other news since I last blogged:  Folks are noticing I am pg.  A woman at the school cafeteria commented on Tuesday: "You're pregnant!  I thought so, but I didn't want to say anything, because well, you know...."  I was thrilled!  I took that to mean that folks have been noticing the weight gain and their initial reactions have been pg and not too many quesadillas.  By the way, Kate Hudson gained 75 pounds during her pregnancy.  Seventy.  Five. Freakin'. Pounds.  More power to her because that takes the pressure off the rest of us.  And we gain the ability to rightly think that Gabrielle Reese, the 6' 3" professional volley ball player who only gained 26 lbs, is a tall skinny freak.

I have good news for the other older Moms out there.  A Sunday NY Times magazine article on longevity had a quote from Tom Perls that women who give birth in their 40's have a 4.5 times greater chance of living to 100 than women who do not.  It's not the act of giving birth in one's forties that increases one's chance of living longer, but it's a "marker" that a woman who CAN give birth at this stage is aging less rapidly than the population at large. Pretty cool finding, huh???  At least it means that I might be able to pay off all our loans AND put the children through school before I physically have to retire!

Final note before I start working today:  One week ago today, NC was  in the midst of our worst snow storm in 100 years.  Today, the high is going to be near 78 degrees.  I truly love living in this part of the country!  The tulips and daffodils are fairly jumping out of the ground right now.  It's been a perfect week weatherwise.

Time to work on projects.  And then I'm talking an hour long walk at lunch through our fantastic weather.  I cannot wait.  I might jog a little bit.
