Power Outage
It was almost a repeat of Ice Storm 2002. Except there wasn't an ice storm. We had a temperature of 81 F degrees yesterday. (yes, one week after our "blizzard.") And instead of a power outage lasting 1 week, it only lasted 2 hours....with another blip off at 5:00 am to muck up everyone's alarm clock.
But yes, the Plaza-Midwood neighborhood of Charlotte lost power last night at 8:00 pm. Right when I started baking my mom's birthday cake. (We're going for a do-over this afternoon!) Fortunately, after last year's Frontier House Honeymoon, my man and I sprang into action locating all the battery powered accessories (lamps, radios) and plugging in the analog phone--if that's what you call a phone that isn't wireless. I don't know....I just know it works.
I couldn't sleep at all last night b/c I was worried about finishing cleaning the house before the parents arrive this afternoon. I woke up at 4:00 am to set out eggs and butter thinking I could bake the cake this morning before work. But then the second blip reset our alarms and I overslept. Sorry mom! you're going to have to watch me bake it this afternoon! I still hope you want it after you see how I bake. It's not the prettiest thing on earth. ;-)
The cake, however, is.
