Junior League Wearhouse

Yesterday, I went to the spring sale at Charlotte's Junior League wearhouse.  They have the "new" spring maternity clothes in, and I thought I'd check it out.  Plus, everything was 30% off...so how can you beat that?

I did learn a bit about why dresses and skirts look amazingly hideous on me.  I've never looked good in A-line skirts.  Even before I was pregnant, they made my body look broad and my legs look stocky.  I don't (when not pg) have a big difference between my waist and hips, and A-line doesn't flatter that figure.  As a pregger, A-line skirts and dresses come off as a tent on me.  I found a dress which looked pretty on the rack---a dress up black dress with an empire dress---but the mounds of fabric from the empire waist down was just hideous.  I can only imagine a waif with a 20 inch waist would look good in that dress.

I also accidentally tried on my first nursing outfit.  It was a hot pink (a little much for me, but for $5, hey!) fitted knit skirt with an attached top.  It looked like a casual outfit for kicking around the house.  I figured out it was a nursing outfit because of the cut outs where the boobs generally are.  (An odd experience to try on a top with cut out boobs hidden underneath it, let me tell you).  And then I realized that it was a mini-skirt!!!  What the hell??  Cut out boobs and a mini skirt may work at Fredrick's of Hollywood, but despite its sporty color and fabric, it just didn't seem right for nursing clothes.  And do I really need nursing clothes?  Can't I just unbotton or lift my top???

I ended up getting a nice blue t-shirt and a pink shirt for me (about $10 total) and spent another $12 on incredibly cute baby clothes!  2 sleepers and 2 little outfits that are just so cute!!!  And surprising to me, I did keep asking myself "are these boys clothes or girls clothes?"  I've been trying to go for neutral yellow and green clothes b/c the whole baby blue thing bugs me.  But I found myself repulsed at the sleeper with pictures of lipstick, perfume bottles, hair brushes, and "how fair am i" and "princess" written all over it.  You know, until I wrote that sentence, I thought I was repulsed about buying it for my son.  But to be honest, I wouldn't buy that for my daughter either.

Off to a busy day at work.  Finally, we're getting some warm spring weather today.
