Busy Weekend
We spent most of Saturday working around the house. I still have not even started painting the new family room. I spent Saturday cleaning the dust from sanding out of it, re-spackling, and caulking the gaping holes between the baseboard and the wall. Today, I finished putting up the painter’s tape. Tomorrow, the painting begins!
Dave did his chores—painting the trim and siding we replaced and moving dirt. We now only have a small mound of dirt left in the driveway. Next weekend, we’ll finish up the landscaping chores, plant annuals and maybe some perennials, and finish putting the veggies in the garden.
I have to be honest in that I’m looking forward to not doing so much work on the weekends. I have no idea, however, of when that will happen.
There was an article in yesterday’s Observer that had me crying. 3 years ago, a father mistakenly left his 10 month old son in the backseat of his car while he was at work. It was clearly an accident, but what amazed me was how the parents fought to stay together and to even have more children. They were an older and very well educated, he is a vet and she is an anesthesiologist. I remember that not that long ago a professor at UC Irvine also left his infant in the backseat and the child died. I can tell that I will now have a new obsessive behavior with the baby. I will check the backseat every time I get out of the car. I cannot imagine the horror and guilt and anger at causing the death of one’s child. I think it says a lot about that couple that they fought to stay together and to work through that tragedy. I think that has to be one of the worse things that could happen to a family.
On that light note, I’m hoping to get on the research train this week and ride it to a couple of submitted manuscripts before the bun makes his appearance. Off to conquer the world…or my small part of it.
